P. Vallarta Wins - Now where to stay

Thanks for all the quick & concise responses about Cabo vs PV! We've decided! Now, which of the many "zones" in PV is best? We'd like to avoid a rental car/be able to walk/use public trans. to most places. Any recommendations on things tried and true? We want great pools for the kids. Never done all-incl. but maybe?..
We usually do condos or villas.. any advice?

mexicandestinations.com is a nice website with some beautiful villas. I'd rent in the south area of town, the romantic zone. It's the prettiest part of town.
There are also lots of condos available in the marina.

The website provided above also has EXCELLENT maps. Take a look at those to get a feel for where you want to be situated around the Bay.

My suggestion is also somewhere "south of the river" (Rio Cuale on the south edge of El Centro) for the nicest local atmosphere yet with convenience to downtown. I would not do an all-inclusive because there are so many wonderful places to eat, in all price ranges and styles in Vallarta.

Rent a condo or villa, especially if that's what you usually do.

Ditto to Suze. Old Town for sure. I like Condo's because the kids may meet others to play with. Ask an agent about Plaza Dorada. Most Condo's have nice pools. It's really easy to ride the big, old buses around old town into Centro (where the Malecon is) and out to Sam's and WalMart if you choose. The nicer hotels are in Marina and Nuevo Vallarta. But the activities for kids are around the Malecon. No to all-inclusives because there are so many great places to eat in PV. The kids will get a kick out of PiPi's four blocks up from the Malecon. My 8 yr old granddaughter loved the Las Caletas tour because you rode the boat over to a secluded beach, kayaked, snorkeled, hiked, took pictures with parrots, and had a great lunch. They also offer a cooking class and a pottery class.
