New Airport Security to be in place Dec. 31
A Heads Up For Everyone Traveling Soon

Dec. 31 is the deadline for the new security to be in place in all US airports. This means all checked lugguage will be checked for explosives according to a New York Times article. Some airports have moved up their cut-off time for passengers with checked bags. They also reserve the right to break locks on suitcases if needed. Any valuables like cameras and film, etc. should be in your carry on luggage.

Check out the web site below for info from the Transportation Security Administration.

http://www.tsa.dot.gov/public/theme_home1.jsp

You are a little too late with this news, Carole. You need to travel more often, dear child.
Carole, someone has have to be an idiot to pack a camera or film in a check-in lugguage. And when you check in all airlines already inform you that your bags need to be unlocked or they may be open and damaged if locked.

Don't pack your chocolates in your check-in as well. This sophistaicated new equipment in the airports may show that your chocolate is an explosive material. Go figure.

It may not be new "news" to you OR me, but I'm posting to all travelers including first timers. It is also not news to me that many airports do this now and the Cancun airport has been checking all luggage by hand on departure since 9/11. I leave from all different airports on the east coast and have NEVER been advised about not locking suitcases (which I don't anyway). You would have to be an idiot to pack chocolates in checked bags.

I travel to Mexico every other month, How often do you go.

You are so touchy Carole.
Get use to a fact that on this board people always add information and own opinions too. Don't be so sensitive. I did not mean any harm

I travel almost every week, dear Carole.
Came back from Hawaii last Tuesday, leaving tomorrow for Charleston, coming back on Thursday, leaving for 2 weeks in Belize January 9th

Leaving for Paris February 5th and on and on and we love it

Should I continue?

This board never ceases to disappoint me as I search for new evidence of human pettiness. Personally, I don't have a policy regarding carrying chocolate in my checked baggage or not - what a thing to worry about! If I were bringing back a lot of well-wrapped chocolate from somewhere, I imagine I would check it - and take my chances. I
always check used film through, if I'm checking anything - in a protective and padded box or bag. Many serious/professional photographers do the same.

Whoa, Misanthrope, you wrote:
"I always check used film through, if I'm checking anything - in a protective and padded box or bag. Many serious/professional photographers do the same."

I don't think so. I can't imagine any serious photographer checking exposed film for two reasons. #1 unknown amount of exposure to xrays and #2 the airlines might lose your luggage. Especially now that they are going to start xraying all checked bags!
