Near Cancun-snokeling, nice rental on beach?

We are interested in going, mid-Jan. Any ideas for a quiet, beachfront, upscale rental near snorkeling, scuba diving?

For starters it sounds like you've described Akumal. It's about 70K south of Cancun and very easy to get to. There are a couple wonderful snorkel spots just off Akumal and lots of beach front properties.

Check here for some introduction.

Thank you for pointing me in this direction. Have you ever stayed in a particular house you would recommend?

Hi, we just got back from Akumal and there are 2 recommended dive shops. You can check my trip report. We stayed at Iguana 15. I wouldn't call it upscale but it was a comfortable, very clean condo.

There are some excellent condos on locogringo.com or check VRBO.

Bear in mind that akumal bay is sandy whereas Half Moon Bay is very rocky at where you enter the water (wear reef shoes).

Agree on Akumal, though it's worth checking out Puerto Morales also, just south of the Cancun airport. Nice reef just off the shore there and it's a real town with actual Mexicans living in it. As opposed to just tourists.

Looks interesting. Any suggestions on where to stay in Puerto Morales?

I have never stayed in this location. I don't know this woman or the property offered, but I found this listing a few years ago when we were considering a stay in the Akumal area. It looks like such a cute place. I agree that locogringo is a great site for all things in the Cancun corridor.
