Lodges on Osa Peninsula

Can one swim in the ocean near any of the lodges on Osa Peninsula?

Oh, sorry, forgot to ask one more thing. Is March very hot? If yes, what would be a better month for visiting? Is end of December better?

Yes, March is hot; it's actually the month with the highest temperatures.

I meant to add that it's pretty hot and humid there all year around, so although March is the hottest month, it's only going to be a few degrees cooler in the other months. Rainy season is roughly May through December. January, February, and March would be the driest months. We went in July and enjoyed it. Surprisingly we didn't get any rain.

Iguana Lodge outside of Puerto Jimenez is on the beach and many people swim there. Unfortunately during our stay it was a "Supermoon" phase and the waves were extremely high, so no one was swimming.

Iguana has 4 club rooms along with some casitas and a large villa, so lots of options. There are loads of scarlet macaws, some howlers and sloths, but not the amount of wildlife you'll see at lodges further out.

We found a split of Iguana (to do our Golfo Dulce touring) and Bosque del Cabo was a perfect fit for our first trip.

We did the Iguana Lodge/Bosque del Cabo combination and it worked very well for us as well (we also added a night at Bosque del Rio Tigre for bird sightings--amazing place).

What about any lodges on Drake Bay? Can we swim there?

There are good swimming beaches (e.g. San Josecito) down the coast from Drake Bay, but not immediately off the Drake Bay area.

So in terms of swimming it won't matter if we are at BDC or at Pirate Cove or at La Paloma, correct?

We stayed at BdC, but didn't swim there. It's up on the cliff so it's a long hike down, and the surf can be rough. They have tide charts up that you can watch to see when high tide is. They'll drive you down to the beach if you request it.

Pretty much. Most people take a boat to San Josecito near Drake Bay, spend a few hours, then walk back along the coast to DB.

But you can sit in tide pools (think nature's hot tubs) on the Pacific side of Bosque del Cabo (and El Remanso). That usually fulfills my ocean fix enough.

Thank you!
And in terms of weather, would another month be better than March?

For us, hiking to the beach at BdC is part of the adventure. Maybe we were lucky, but the water was calm enough at the third beach (can't recall the name) to swim both times we were there. We asked to be picked up after.

We enjoyed January more than June, which was much wetter. We haven't been there in March.

Oh, the beach at Las Caletas near Drake Bay had great swimming when we stayed there several years ago, but it isn't nearly as good for wildlife viewing as BdC.

We prefer February to March, just because February is just a more miserable month where we live.
