Cabo San Lucas or Ixtapa-tell me the good, the bad and the ugly
Dear Husband and I want to go on our 1 year anniversary to either Cabo San Lucas or Ixtapa.
Can you please give me any information you have on either of these places. Areas, Beaches, food, hotels, activities. We are in the weeee beginning stages of this vaca and don't know if these places are a right choice for us.

i've only been to Cabo, and wouldn't bother going back, not with all the other wonderful places in Mexico. No charm, beaches aren't good...
Between the 2, I'd definitely choose Ixtapa/Zijuatenejo. And if I had lots of $$, I'd stay at La Casa Que Canta!

Been to Cabo San Lucas and I agree with frankie.
Been to Ixtapa several times.
You get the best of both worlds in Ixtapa and/or Zihuatanejo.
It is only a 50 cent bus ride between both places.
Ixtapa is the tourist place with the beach front hotels most are all - inclusive but not all.
And shopping across the street from the hotels ,but still ,it is not the hussle and bussle that Puerto Vallarta or Cancun are.
Zihuatanejo is the quaint Mexican town with smaller beach front motels and hotels.
Most of the Mexicans that work in Ixtapa live in Zihuatanejo.
If you have never been here ,then treat yourself to this nice place.

I much prefer the physical setting further down the Pacific west coast on the mainland. Beautiful swimmable beaches and bays, mountains, jungles behind, palm trees galore. Baja is a desert peninsula big-time (think huge cactus). My experiences are Puerto Vallarta and La Paz so can't comment on the specific towns.
