9 Days in Belize In June

9 Days in Belize In June
Last month we took our 2 girls (8 and 11) on their first trip out of the US. I had been to Belize 2 times before. I took my wife once 15 years ago. I have traveled a bit and I just cant get enough of Belize. What always strikes me about traveling in this country is how much I like the people of Belize. This trip was no exception.
We started off in Caye Caulker at the Caye Caulker Condos. While I liked the staff and the hotel, our beds were unbearably hard. I am not too picky as a traveler but I dont know if I have stayed in a less comfortable bed. Anyway this was our 2nd time to the island and we will definitely make it back for a 3rd time. We had some good fishing, great food and lots of coconut rum. My oldest daughter was on the island for less than 10 mins when she noticed no one wore shoes and took hers off and didnt put them on for the rest of the time on the island. We went out with Raggamuffin snorkeling which is hard to not enjoy - we also did a private tour but I dont remember the company. The private tour was wonderful and our guide, Nano knew how to handle kids and help them get comfortable on their first time in the snorkeling. 4 days on the island and they were all great.
Then 4 days inland at Black Rock Lodge.
I wasnt expecting to like the jungle as much as I did. The staff is all excellent at BRL friendly and smart. We did multiple trips out to the ruins and the zoo and caves and every guide we had was very qualified and very willing to answer our many questions. The only issue the girls had was dinner time. My wife and I were fine with the prix fix dinner plan but its just never going to be a kid friendly solution. We did stock up on bread and peanut butter in our room and our youngest was able to have that for dinner but I do wish they had either a kid fare or simple menu for kids because it was tough. But other than that the meals were great and the kids were able to find something at every other meal. Much of the food served at the lodge is grown on the property and they even make their own bread. Our original plan was to do rent a car and drive ourselves but we were both very glad we ditched that plan. Not worth the stress.
Now I am missing the rum and the Belikin but I did come back with Marie Sharps. We are already planning another trip down.
