Where to stay between Pienza and Rome Airport?

Our trip is just about finalized, thanks in part to this board. Here is what we have so far:

2 nights Lucerne, Hotel des Alpes
4 nights Varenna, Hotel du Lac
3 nights Siena, Villa Scacciapensieri
4 nights Pienza, Piccolo Hotel la Valle

I tried to get a fifth night at Piccolo, but was not available. Now I'm looking for one night between Pienza and Rome Airport. We will fly from Rome back to Zurich before heading home.

I would like to see Pitigliano, something charming near there would be great. Any thoughts on how long it will take to drive from Pienza to Rome Airport?

luvtotravel, according to viamichelin.com, its about 135 miles from Pienza to Fiumicino airport. Orvieto is close to Pitigliano, and about 50 miles from Pienza. I only daytripped there, so I can't give any hotel recommendations, but Orvieto is a wonderful town to visit and very close to Pitigliano. Anywhere in the area should make for a good stop between Pienza and the airport.

Pienza is 2 1/2 hrs from the airport, & Orvieto is 1 1/2 hrs from the airport, once you get on the road.

Orvieto would be a good place to stay.

luvtotravel,
The Hotel della Fortezza in Sorano http://www.emmeti.it/Welcome/Toscana.../index.it.html is close to Pitigliano. I thought it was charming.

You can see my trip report http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1292641

Feel free to e-mail if you have questions.

Once you get to Piccolo, they may have availability for you for the fifth night. Or you could check back with them frequently before your trip. If that doesn't work, I'd recommend Orvieto in a heartbeat. Do a search on Orvieto for lots of info.
