Where to lunch in Assisi?
Have been doing a little research into places to have a nice relaxing lunch after seeing the sights/sites in Assisi. Any ideas?
Medioevo and Ristorante Metastasio look interesting. Outdoor seating would be a plus, but the food is the thing.
We'll be there in a few weeks.

La Taverna dei Consoli. It's in Piazza del Commune just up from Santa Maria sopra Minerva. Going up, at the fountain take a left to the restaurant entrance. It has a lovely terrace overlooking the piazza. The staff was friendly, the food out of this world. I had grilled sausage, polenta, and asparagus. Sounds so simple but it was taken to a new level. My husband had mixed grilled meats and roasted potatoes that he talks about to this day.
Or if you're in the mood for a picnic, there's a salumeria (deli, of sorts, but more a shrine to cured meats) in the same area. If I remember correctly, at the fountain, still facing up, there are three streets leading off the piazza, the one on the right takes you to a line of shops. The salumeria is not for from there on your right. I'm pretty sure English is spoken but "un etto" is 100 grams or about 1/4 lb.

I like the picnic idea. We do that a lot. You can get what you need in town then hike up to Rocca Maggiore and enjoy the panoramic view as you dine.
On the other hand, the restaurants in Assisi serve great pastas with tartufo. So, where ever you choose to eat, get the tartufo because you cannot buy it in the US.
We will be in Assisi from 12 June to 21 June so these restaurant recommends are well receive here.

Your three front-runners are all very good. The last 2 are particular favs of mine. The Piazzetta dell'Erbe is quite creative and has a lovely little outdoor terrace, tucked just out of sight of the main piazza. I stop there for a meal every year.

I know I have responded once to this request but I am currently sitting in Ristorante Grotta Antica and it is wonderful! A great family atmosphere with great food at a great price. The best bruschetta I have every had that includes tartufo as well as the more typical olive oil with garlic and pompodoro. It is located on a small alley just below the Pizza Comune. If you make it here ask for Nadia and she will take care of you.
