Getting from Portugal to Turkey

Hi,
In August this year my friends and I are planning a Europe holiday. At one point we're hoping to get from Portugal to Turkey. Has anyone done this trip? If so how? Flights are surprisingly expensive but taking the train takes forever. Any advice?

Thanks!

Check airlines like Ryan and Vueling that are cheaper but have more rules than religions but fly to and from various cities.

What does the rest of the itinerary look like? That's about the longest leg you could do in Europe, perhaps rearranging the rest would improve matters.

I know from personal experience that getting to Turkey from the Iberian Peninsula cheaply is no easy exercise and Portugal is more difficult than Spain.

Of the two airlines you've been advised to look at, Ryanair don't fly yo Turkey and I don't think that Vueling do anymore either.

It depends a bit on where in Portugal you intend to fly from. Turkish Airlines are now flying from Málags as well as Madrid and Barcelona and Spanair fly from the latter two as well.

I often used to fly from Spain to the UK and change planes there; another alternative is to get a cheap flight to Frankfurt or Munich and travel on from there.

There were an incredible amount of Spanish tourists in Turkey when we visited last November. In fact we saw store signs in both Castilian and Catalan.

I wonder if there are charter or an increase in flights.

But two flights by two different carriers may be in order.

www.which budget.com

No space between which and budget. You can also consider flying into Bulgaria & taking the train from there.
