If you are planning to stay in Paris for a few days, I would not rent the car when you arrive . . wait until you are leaving . . I use Hertz and they have a few locations in Paris to rent the cars
A car in Paris is a huge PIA . .

You ahve 8 days for Paris, Nice and Florence and then to get to Vienna by road? No way - wha tyou want will take at elast 2 weeks - not one.
If it were me I would spend the first week in paris with a day trip or two and then hop a planeto Vienna. And no need for a car. (A car in paris at all is a nonsense.)
And this should be posted in europe - unless all 4 cities are in Micigan.

This is too long a trip in the time you have. If this is a first trip to Paris you need 4 days , Nice two days - BUT - Nice has a great beach and a much better Airport experience than Paris. I'd recommend you fly to Nice , rent a car for a couple days, then TGV to Paris at 200mph. Forget Florence for now, then get a fast overnight train to Vienna - that might work for you! PS get a Garmin 1200 and up model and download the CityXplorer maps for the cities you will visit. This will give you ALL the travel info you need for trains, buses and cars. The French do not suffer ignorance lightly and are less than helpful to lost Americans.

First off, a car is a total liability in Paris, next to useless in Nice, and completely useless in Florence.
Second, you don't have anywhere near enough time to see Paris, Nice, and Florence in 8 days. You might have time for Paris and one other place.
Third, if you rent a car in country A and drop it off in country B, you're going to pay a whopping big extra fee.
Time to start over on this one.

Tony1234, to explain about cars: Paris and Florence are almost impossible to find your way around in by car. And impossible to park. You have to use taxis, subways, and buses. And, in addition, central Florence, the part you want to see, is off limits to non-resident cars. Besides that, you can walk across central Florence in about half an hour, so you just don't need a car.
It will take a day to drive from Paris to Nice, and a little over half a day to drive from Nice to Florence. I would guess two days to get to Vienna, although I have never driven there. So there goes 3 1/2 days of the 8 you have available. Fast trains or night trains are better, and as someone suggested, leaving out Florence and flying from Paris to Vienna makes more sense.
Paris with a couple of day trips ( like Versailles) and then Vienna is best here, unless you still could get your tickets into Nice, train to Paris, then plane to Vienna, as suggested by someone here.
