Where to Go After Point Reyes
We will be spending two nights in Point Reyes and are looking for a place further north on the coast to spend Saturday night. We are considering Whale Watch Inn for the dramatic views but are concerned that it is dated. Can anyone suggest a gorgeous place to spend Saturday night? Budget is up to $300.
On Sunday we will be heading back south to spend three nights in the Big Sur area. We will stop somewhere along the way but not sure where. Any ideas on that? Maybe the San Francisco area (but not the city itself...saving that for a separate trip).
We are outdoorsy people but we still love comfort and like to spend our evenings talking and drinking wine. We are going to California for the great coastal views, redwoods, and hiking.
Thank you!

I've never stayed at Whale Watch Inn, but 90% of those who reported a stay there on TripAdvisor claim to like the place.
You could continue on to Mendocino, which is a delightful town. There are many dining options and a walk on the Mendocino Headlands is hard to beat.
Little River, just south of Mendocino, has places to stay that many travelers like.
From Mendocino you could drive south on Highway 128 and stay some place in Sonoma or Napa County--Healdsburg would be my choice.

The Mendocino idea is a good one. Also you might look at a house rental in The Sea Ranch just south of Point Arena. Great walking paths along the headlands and a water view from most places.
Inland, but great for a wine lover, Philo and Navarro in the Andersen Valley. Top quality sparkling wines and pinot noirs.
