To Patrick

Some time ago you mentioned that "Mon Plaisir" was your favorite London pre theater restaurant. I agree, it's a winner. I will be in London again shortly and would appreciate any other gems you can recommend . Not only in the theater area but anywhere in the West End. Thanks!

Hi Pipsil,

I really hope you don't mind, but I'd like to ask Patrick a question too.

Patrick, while researcing Dubrovnik on this forum, I found a posting of yours that was "Part 6" of your 3 month long trip. I believe you left off in Bari and you were getting ready to head to Dubrovnik by ferry. The question is: Did you ever post that experience of crossing the Adriatic to Dubrovnik? I couldn't find it.

Thanks pipsil (The good thing is that it brings the post back to the top And thanks in advance to Patrick for your response.

You should really BOTH post questions with the subject matter in the header - - you could still mention in the header if you wish...

...bt the FAR better header(s) would be...

"Seeking advice on theater district or other London west end restaurants, especially for pre-theater"

and

"Seeking experience on Adriatic crossings by ferry to Dubrovnik"

That's how this forum works (so well as it does) - - people share information, and they can find questions of interest to them!

Best wishes,

Rex

Sorry to disagree with you Rex. Both wantagig and I wanted to address Patrick as he had posted specific information we wanted repeated. I do see your point but don't feel we need to be chastised.

pipsil: Actually - wantagig's question makes a bit more sense since he is looking for the rest of Patrick's trip report.

But I'll have to agree w/ Rex (sheesh, been doing that more than usual lately)

But there are MANY fodorites who would have good suggestions for places to eat. There are lots who live in London and others who go there and to the theatre frequently.

If you had a specific question that only Patrick could answer -- maybe -- but where to eat pre-theatre is pretty generic and you are sort of cutting off a wealth of info . . . . . . .

I pretty much agree about omitting specific names in posts, unless it is a very specific question that relates to what someone has posted.

But anyway, here are some answers.
Regarding that trip report, yes I did post the other parts of it, but I am never able to bring them up via the inadequate search function. That seems like ages ago, but yes we went, the boat was jam packed with Italians on vacation sleeping everywhere, even on the stairways -- glad we had a cabin. I'll be happy to answer any other questions you have about that part of the trip.

West End restaurants: Oh, my, there are so many favorites, but here are a couple of mine.

Le Deuxieme on Long Acre. This is a pretty and modern restaurant that seems to specialize in fish, but everything is wonderful. They do a very nicely priced two or three course pre or post theatre menu.

L'Estaminet on Floral Street. Pretty brick French bistro sort of place with candlelight. Again, a great priced pre-theatre menu. Unfortunately they are not open after theatre. Since this is almost next door to our flat, it has become our usual place for first night dinner when we eat earlier than usual due to "jet-lag".

Hidden on a little "alleyway" near the Royal Opera is little Cafe des Amis, which is an old favorite but was totally redone in a more modern decor a couple of years ago. Very good food at reasonable prices.

Of course, we always hit Joe Allen's on Exeter, which is a re-incarnation of the New York place, always filled with theatre folk (audience and backstage people as well).

Rusticana and Picolo Diavalo, both in Soho are two cheap, but good Italian places good for after theatre.

I still love Langan's Brasserie, removed from the theatre district and closer to the Ritz. Really good food and a great atmosphere and service. Fun.

And I love both Belgo Centraal and the Wagamama's for inexpensive meals that are also fun and rather quick -- but usually do them at lunch.

Speaking of lunch, weekend lunch at J. Sheekey's is a great bargain -- maybe half the price of the weekday one. This is a sister restaurant to the Ivey, that features seafood.

Thank you Patrick .Most helpful. As it happens I did want to address you personally as I recalled your previous posts in which you recommended places I found especially appealing. Clearly a major faux pax - won't happen again.
