I have just booked 2 rooms at YH Geralda in the Santa Cruz area of Seville. Has anyone stayed here? It seems like a good location and is relatively inexpensive but rooms appear to be quite small.

Also, is it typical for a double room in Spain to have two twin beds instead of a double bed?

I am also considering the Best Western which appears to be a 10-15 minute walk from the Cathedral. We are trying to stay around $125-$150 night (not much with the price of the EU).

double occupancy coud be in two twins or a double or queen bed.

most likely if the rooms are small, it will not be a queen, so two twins might be more comfortable.

contact the hotel directly to see if they can give you the type bed set-up you prefer.

I haven't stayed at the Best Western on Calle Cervantes but do know the location, near Alameda de Hércules. It's not the most central of the hotels in your price range.

About the YH Giralda-

it's in the heart of the atmospheric Santa Cruz quarter, a nice location with everything walkable. The rooms are pleasant but in a basic pared down style (I've taken a tour).
They face an atrium of this reconverted 18th c. palace, and with the bare marble floors, the noise of guests coming in & out can reverberate. There have been complaints of "paper thin" walls.

For the top of your price range, $150 or €102, I think you could do better.
(provided you're not staying during Holy Week or April Fair).

Amadeus was our first choice, but we are planning this trip rather last minute and they are already full. I will definitely look into the other options suggested. I've emailed Seville5 a couple of times about apartments but have not had a response. Is it better to call them?

Another we are considering is the Senet in Triana, but I think that may be a bit far out.

Also, the Alminar isn't in the Santa Cruz quarter but instead near the cathedral-another great location.

Another low budget option in the Santa Cruz quarter is the Hostería del Laurel.

Both the Hotel Callejón del Agua and Hotel Adriano have availability in my price range and they both look very nice. I'm leaning towards the Callejon del Aqua but the rest of my family is favoring the Adriano. Regarding the Adriano - it did get a couple of negative reviews due to noise and sewer odors. Noise is to be expected on a main street and I've heard that sewer odors are common in Spanish hotels. Is that true?

I've read through the Trip Advisor reviews of both too. I wouldn't base my decision on a few negatives there, as I don't know many hotels about which all the reviews on TA have been uniformly glowing.

I would read Jeff's descriptions of each at www.exploreseville.com (he's the same Jeff of www.seville5.com) He's done a nice job with his Seville hotel reviews in his fantastic Seville guide.

He describes the Callejón del Agua as being a 2 star hostal with a 2 star hotel feel (but does have an elevator), while the Adriano is a 2 star hotel offering the amenities of a 3 star hotel.

The Adriano rooms are classically decorated, with more of a proper hotel look, less claustrophobic-a little larger, and it does have that handy coffee shop. Many bars & restaurants in that Arenal location too.

The Adriano is just less well known because it's not a Santa Cruz quarter boutique property. At the Adriano I would book one of the rooms facing the interior patio.

Don't think you'll go wrong with either. I'm glad both came within your budget!

I have been reading this thread and have just booked Hotel Amadeau in Sevilla (La Musica0 for 4 nights in Nov 2008. Thank you all for the great information. I think we'll be very happy at La Musica. Does anyone have a recomendation for a hotel in Cordoba??

In the same price range, you might want to look at Casa de los Azulejos in Córdoba, lots of typical Andalusian atmosphere, a member of Rusticae. It's a selection of Inns of Spain and Secret Places.
