Rome train travel to the airport

Hi,

We are leaving Florence to go to Nice on the 10th September via Rome. We have a flight leaving Rome at 12pm, check in will close at 11.25am.

Do you think we will have enough time if we arrive on a train from Florence to Rome Termini station at 9.50am to get the the airport (train leaving Rome Termini at 10.20am arriving at the airport at 10.55am) and from the airport train station to make it to Terminal 2 to check in to our flight to Nice?

Or do you think it would be safer and in our best interest to catch an earlier train from Florence to Rome (arriving at 9.10am) to give us more time?

Any advice would help

I would take the earlier train. That airport can be an absolute zoo.

It is "possible" that it might work, but you have no margin for foul ups. Is the carrier the kind it does not help for you to be in line on time, but must complete the check-in process? Is the consequence of missing the flight acceptable to you?

From other thread, you seem to be coming from Santorini. Was it not possible to do Rome last, so you don't have this issue?

Come on now, this question answers itself.

Or rephrase what you wrote: should we risk it for an extra half hour of sleep or play it safe?

Are you absolutely certain of the 11.25 cut off time. We generally encounter a 45 min cut off. I am not familiar with Terminal 2 operations but Terminal 3 at that time of day can have long security lines. You have no margin anything to go wrong. I would not do it.

Budget airlines require you to be completely checked in, not just in their line. The boarding gate closes 30 minutes before departure.

Even the train arriving at 9:50 is cutting it too close in my opinion. Fiumicino is one of those airports where I wouldn't be comfortable with anything less than a full two hours before flight time. Then, since trains are not always on time, I would not take the last train that would get me there two hours before flight time. I would take at least the penultimate train that would get me there.
