Who are you, what are your credentials, and why are you asking these questions?

And how much are you willing to pay for taking my time to answer all these questions?

I don't mind helping out a fellow traveler but you've only posted 3 times all today about the same subject.
What's the purpose of this information? Just getting some free market research?

Also - many of the posters on this board are American - and some of your questions don;t work for us (education, home area, income etc).

Does that mean you want answers only from europeans? Or not from Americans?

Actually I count five posts, in five different languages. Guess he's trying to get to everyone all at the same time!

If you want answers you're going to need to set up a website that allows live answers - no one is going to write this all down - or even cut and paste and try to fill in - which won;t really work.

And master student in what? At what university?

(And frankly I can;t imagine that anyone would accept the results of this survey - since you've using a very skewed target audience - and will end up with a self-selected sub-set to provide answers aimed in a specific diretion.)

Well, it's a pretty lengthy survey and not in a place where it's convenient to answer them one at a time... but I'll try to answer a couple if that's useful to you?

We (my wife and I) have visited Transylvania once, so far, and that was for a leisure trip (tourists). I'm American and she is Australian.

Prior to going, our impression was that Transylvania was a bit of an unknown - it does have sort of a mysterious past, be it reality or mythical.

After visiting, our impression is still favorable, but this time as much for the reality as for the expectations. The kind people, the nice towns, the castles & walled churches, the old-fashioned ways of the villages, the beauty of the countryside - especially the mountain areas.

Is it safe? Well, we never felt in danger of harm. And we were in the cities of Timisoara, Sibiu, Medias and Brasov as well as the countryside. But there were a few minor attempts at pickpocketing and trying to grab a bag we were carrying. Nothing serious though.

Yes, I think the area has a lot to offer people who are looking for a unique experience. Personally, I think it's an excellent value and we will come back someday. I don't think it's for everyone though... no place is. I do think that Romania in general has understandedly not caught up with the type of tourist structure that a place like Italy or France would have. And I'm not sure that it should. That is sort of the appeal for me, I think. That it feels like most places are not designed around managing the flow of tourists and tourist dollars (well, maybe Sighisoara and Bran are a little bit)

Anyway, I hope this is useful. It's a beautiful place.

Please ignore the Euro sign, when completing your answers (as the two currencies are pretty much similar). Thanks

You might want to refine and define your income brackets in 21.7.
2500€
If that is per year, you'll be getting a lot of response in the > category.
If that is per month, ditto.
If that is per week, you'll have fewer but still an abundance > 500.
Perhaps you need broader and/or higher brackets. To assign them, you'll need an awareness of income levels in the tourists' home countries. I don't know what the average wage in Romania is, but it's probably less than in USA, Canada, Switzerland, etc. Just as a Sudanese student might think 10€ per day might be a lot of money, not knowing that 10€ per hour is more like it, you have to make sure you're designing a survey from the "customer's" perspective, not your own.

MM...I've made repeated visits to Transylvania and all of Romania in the past thirty years..all for research. I'm a writer and two of my novels use a Romanian base in the story.
My general views of Transylvania and Romania in general parallel that of Clifton's (above).
I strongly feel that the entire region including Maramuresh and Moldavia/Bukovina holds much for the tourist and I, too, hope it retains its rural atmoshpere for the next few decades.
We plan to do a film in Romania, based on one of my novels, a good part in Transylvania and Maramuresh..later this year.

My wife and I recently returned from Romania, including time spent in Transylvania. It's beautiful country, reminded us of the Appalachians. But I must be perfectly frank in saying the country lacks tourist amenities at present -- miserable roads, air service that is years behind EU standards, and roadside litter that is not to be believed. The potential is there, but there is a lot of work to be done. If Romania enters the EU, it could become a year-round vacation destination -- skiing, beaches, hiking, peaceful villages, boating, and all other forms of recreation. The infrastructure needs investment.

You also need to change home area and education.

For home area all you have is urban or rural. Many Americans are suburban - perhaps most.

For education - we don't have lyceal(sp?). Generally the categories would be Did not Graduate from high school, High School Graduate, Some College, College Graduate, Advanced degrees.

(We use college vs university - since we have many colleges - not like English "colleges" - which confer BA/BS degrees but are not Universities - that is don;t confer advanced degrees. We also have AA degrees in some subjects - which is 2 years after high school vs 4 years, which you get at Junior College.)

Agree about the income ranges - it's not clear to what they refer. And in surveys one generally uses annual family (not individual) income:

Under $25,000
$25,000 - $50,000
$50,000 - $75,000
$75,000 - $100,000
More than $100,000

Although assuming those that travel a lot tend to have higher incomes - you might want to start higher and go up to $150,000 plus (not that much for 2 wage earners in the US - for example in a lot of place 2 experienced teachers would make about this much).

Hi mm,

I looked at your online survey.

May I suggest that you need to add "No Opinion" in some places, eg, question 13.

Also, it is the CZECH Republic.

Hope this helps.
