Part of the Metro in Amsterdam is closed.

There is a short section of track due to close for maintenance, until the 15th August 2010
A Bus service is going to replace trains.

Fortunately it is a line that not many tourists would use. Typical turn of events though.

My crystal ball is broken I'm afraid Pal.
They are still boring tunnels - one down three to go I believe.
Sometime this century is the best I can offer

thanks hetismij -i am a transit buff - anything by rail so went into the special exhibition of the building of both the North-South metro line and the Ij Tram (runs along the Ij east of Centraal Station to all-new towns being created on islands) and have picked up the various brochures showing all the stations, etc.

And it must be a daunting task to burrow under the ancient buildings and under narrow streets, etc. Not like making a subway in say Los Angeles.

Interesting to me the station by the Albert Cuyp Straat - not sure of name but unique in that it will be bi-level due to the narrow street - the line doubles on top of itself.

Can't wait to ride the new line but seems like it could be a long way off!

Well parts of the Vijzelgracht did subside and several houses there are now uninhabitable sadly while they think of a solution.

The other danger point was the Bijenkorf but they passed that successfully with only minimal subsidence.
I thin many Amsterdammers see it as a colossal waste of money and a huge PIA I'm afraid.
