Need a real nice hotel in Piedmont. Preferably Alba, please.
Staying late November in the wine regions of Piemonte and could use a great hotel rec.
Last year we stayed in Barolo in the hotel on the Brezza vineyard. It's a great place but we'd like an upgrade in amenities and a working town around us.
Thanks for your help!

Bob and I have "collaborated" on so many hotel reccs..here's another..yes, The Villa la Favorita is nothing short of superb. About a five minute easy ride into the heart of town..in Nov you won't have any problem parking..we had none in October ('09). I suppose one could walk it ...downhill..but the uphill may be problematic coming back if you're not in good shape. Breakfasts are wonderful...and Roberta the owner is quite an elegant women who makes you feel like a guest in her "private" home. We rate it on our Top Ten list worldwide...recommended to us by EKSCRUNCHY. Thanks again, EK.

I'm not sure how to define "real nice" but check out the reviews for Hotel Langhe http://www.hotellanghe.it/home-eng.php Our stay there surpassed our expectations. And everything they say about the owner and the staff is so true. Forget the parting gift, I wanted to take Nico home!

La Favorita is wonderful. But if you want to be more in the thick of things, I would look for a hotel in Alba itself, either the one linked above, the Langhe, or this one, that looks good from the exterior and has a central location:

Albergo San Lorenzo looks like a not-bad hotel for a great price. €100/nt for a double with free parking and wi-fi.
Palazzo Finati is €240/nt plus €10/day for parking and a charge for wi-fi.
It looks like the choice is clear, though Finati would be a welcome splurge.
Hmmmmmmm.
Thoughts?

I'm back. Thank you very much for the help, all.
Here's what I have to say after my 3rd trip to the area.
Alba is a sleeper. It is the most perfect small city you never heard about in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. There is a great selection of little wine bars and local rustic restaurants alongside a selection of indulgent Michelin-starred destinations from which to choose every night of the week. Top tier clothing stores line the main streets and market vendors gather twice weekly in two different locations. Despite being a major food wine enthusiast's destination, this is a city of well-preserved architecture, lifestyle and culture which has not yet been entirely diluted by tourism like some areas of Tuscany.
In and around this city there are several hotel options at a wide range of prices. Palazzo Finati is among the highest priced options.
Our stay at the Palazzo was remarkably comfortable and being so perfectly located meant we were able to keep out of the car and take many morning and nightly strolls among the historic town finding coffee, lunch and dinner on our own and at our own pace.
The staff at the hotel, all the most gracious women you may ever meet, are extremely helpful in providing anything you may need. The hotel and rooms are well appointed and feel secure with good windows to keep out whatever little bit of noise there may be. Heated floors and towel warmer in the bathroom are a welcome detail, though the shower is oddly configured and uncomfortable, even for my petite wife. The bathroom in our Junior Suite also lacks privacy from the adjacent bedroom with its odd plate glass ceiling.
The small parking lot is an extra charge but turned out to be very convenient for us. Parking is at a premium in Alba and we did use the car frequently to visit vineyards and the towns of Barolo, Barbaresco, Novello, Asti, etc., which are all an easy 10-30 minutes from each other.
Included hotel breakfasts are well prepared and served with perfectly cooked eggs by request. The room was made up and arranged very well each day by a conscientious chambermaid.
I highly recommend Palazzo Finati even at its higher price than comparable hotels if for no other reason than its perfect location and overall cleanliness and comfort.

Happy you enjoyed Alba..we, too, thought it to be a very pleasant and "live" town. Along with Bob and EK, I thank you for reporting back It seems that less and less people have been dong this lately.
