Misc. notes on Paris trip
We just returned from our trip to Paris and thought I would share a few things.
Cell phone - used our T-Mobile Motorola v-66 phones with international roaming service. Setting up the new network was quite easy and it worked. We didn't plan to use the phone, but needed to be in touch (if needed) with my husband's 90-year old parents. It turned out that they needed to call us and we called them a couple of times. We used the phone a total of 15 minutes at 99 cents/minute - not bad. The convenience was worthwhile and it was really important for the in-laws to know what number to call.
CDG to hotel - used Roissybus. This was the second trip we had used this bus. We travel light (at least inbound)and only have a 22 inch suitcase each. Paid 8.30 euros each to get to Opera. Took the Metro to Ecole Militaire stop. Easy and inexpensive. Took shuttle van from hotel to CDG.
Money - Used credit card for most purchases. Took 100 euros leftover from last trip and took another 100 out of ATM at post office.
Food - ate at Jules Verne on my birthday. It was what I had hoped it would be. We had a window table, great service and the food was excellent. It was expensive (especially with the exchange rate) but worth every euro.
Had a wonderful dinner at L'Ami Jean on rue Malar - really good Basque-style food. Reasonable prices.
Nice dinner at La Varangue.
Other meals at little cafes and bistrots.
Went to Starbucks on Avenue de l'Opera - it was packed - mostly French and Japanese being spoken.
Shopping - tried not to pay attention to the exchange rate. Bought teas at Mariage Freres, misc. hardware at BHV (no bathroom sink this time), oils at J. LeBlanc and O & Co.
We had a woderful time in Paris. No one commented on politics or the fact that we were American. Everyone we interacted with was gracious and made our trip a pleasure.
(Pardon the typos - one weary traveler)

I hope you enjoy your upcoming trip. Paris is always wonderful. At La Varangue, I ate a chicken and tagliatelle with gruyere dish and my husband had a veal stew. For dessert I had creme brulee and DH had chocolate gateau. Our meal, incuding wine and coffee came to 49 euros.

Scarlett - The white truffle oil is indeed wonderful. We brought some back for ourselves and one for a gift. Can't wait to drizzle a tiny bit over something special.
Brought back pine nut oil and pistachio oil from J. LeBlanc.
Saw your other post about sandal feet in shoes. I live in Tampa and had that problem, but my Mephistos came through and my feet were as happy as they could be in shoes.
