Affortable Paris Bistros? Oui!

today's New York times. The large photos are great but not on line.

Notice my favorite bistro, La Regalade is listed and happy to see the new owners have kept on serving that terrine that is passed table to table.

With all due respect for the author, Mark Bittman, and no disrespect for the bistros he reviews, at $100 for a meal two, there are scores of wonderful restuarants in Paris -- with good service to boot! Mark had the courage to step out of the 5th, 6th and 7th arrondissments. Good for him! Now if he, and others, would venture eastward, to the 10th, 11th, 12, 13th, 19th and 20 arrondissments, we might one day be regaled with an article titled "Does the Inexpensive, Delightful, Delicious Paris Bistro Still Exist?" The answer is a resounding "Oui."

I am happy to venture eastward. Give us some more of your recommendations.

Jacques Melac, on rue Leon Frot, in the 11th, a bistro a vins. (14.50 two-course lunch menu; prices slightly higher in the evening).

Ravigotte,on rue de Montreuil in the 11th, a quirky, charming 12-table bistro with an all-French clientelle, masiny on a first name basis with the owner/checf, Pierre, and a 19-euro three-course dinner menu.

All of the following are under $100 for two, with wine.

Le Bistro du Peintre, on rue Ledru Rollin, in the 11th.

La Madonina, on rue Maire et Louise, in the 10th, good Italian.

Le Paul Bert, on rue Paul Bert, in the 11th.

Au C'Amelot, on rue Amelot, in the 11th, a choice of two main courses. Appetizer and dessert are the chef's choice.
