Need to know how many steps to take to climb up to the Melk Abbey.

My recollection is that there is parking outside the entrance to the abbey, so it must be possible to get there without climbing steps.

Thanks. Maybe someone here can give me some details on those options How ever we will be taking the train to Melk so bus rides from Vienna would not be an option for us.

You could take a taxi from the station to bring you to the door and avoid the steps.

The first photo on this site shows the steps and another site states they are steep.

When you get off the train, you walk over to the town (.25 - .5 miles?) and the head over to the right to the staircase, as I recall. It is a steep climb, maybe the equivalent of five - eight house heights at least? I think part of it was more of a ramp, and part of it was a series of staircases.

People who come by tour bus park up at the top and walk down a shorter staircase - if you see a photo of white steps with stone balustrades, that’s the view from the parking lot down to the abbey. The ones up from town are more golden, tumbled stones.

If it’s a problem, like someone else said, maybe a cab from the train would be a good idea.

According to the Google map of Melk, there is a bus from the train station that stops within walking distance of the abbey on the back side, i.e. where there is a street going to the abbey.
