LON TRAINS-CHEAPEST ONLINE?

Hello Fodorists

I booked a train tkt online with south west trains and after I pressed the button BUY TKTS the site went backwards...and haven't a clue if I have been charged and have no ref number
is it necessary in order to get cheaper tkts to buy online?
Do not have experience retrieving from a machine... don't like this idea.

I plan to do LON WAT EGHAM LON WAT
and
LONPAD to WINDSOR&ETON CENTRAL to LONPAD

when you go online it says PRICE ONLINE...is that so? Would it be more expensive or a hassle to buy at the station?

thank you

Dolores

For journeys on those commuter routes, there's no price advantage to booking in advance. The only argument for doing so would be if you were likely to be running late for an appointment and couldn't face queueing for ten minutes or so at the ticket office.

Agree with Patrick. Just buy your tickets at the station before you travel.

Why do you have a problem picking up tickets from a machine? Is that not what a ticket machine is for?

Not sure if the ticket machines at Waterloo take cash; if they don't, and OP doesn't have a chip-and-pin card, then queueing up may be the only alternative.

Ordering in advance to pick up from a machine is pretty trustworthy - thousands of people do it all the time.

As it happens, I had cause to go through Waterloo today. There are several banks of ticket machines, and two in every bank of five machines takes banknotes, so OP should have no trouble just turning up to get the tickets on the day. No need to mess around with online booking.

Hi Patrick..you were right..same price ..went to Waterloo and bought tickets on that moment to Egham and another day to Hampton Court and for the last they gave me a one day travel card...so no need to purchase in advance..
the only one I bought in advance that i could print was to Bath..
thank you very much...!!
