L'Hotel hotel in Paris?
My mother and I are planning a trip to Paris in Jan '04 and are interested in L'Hotel. I would appreciate hearing reviews of the hotel. The last place we stayed in Paris was the Hotel St. Sulpice on St. Germain and we were very happy with it.

My husband and I were in Paris on business about 12 years ago and our Parisien business aquaintance suggested L'Hotel. It is a tiny, historic gem, well located near the Beaux-Arts school in the 6th.
When you walk into the foyer and look up the hotel is built "in the round" with the pie-shaped rooms running out from the centre of the hotel. Each room was decorated differently. Ours was the Art Deco room and was entirely furnished with authentic mirrored deco furniture and had a round bed on a rasied paltform. It was quite surreal. We faced into a non-descript courtyard and had no street noise as a result.
Our friends stayed in a room that was very Ralph Lauren in decor, quite English with dark green plaids and quite nice. I have been told the hotel has recently redone their rooms. At the time the tubs had hand showers only and we struggled to keep the bathroom dry.
We were also told Oscar Wilde lived in the hotel until his death.
The service was wonderful. The location terrific. I do recall the elevator was so small we had to send each suitcase up separately.

Gayle, the hotel was closed down for some time and has been entirely renovated since your stay. I've heard it's even more "over the top" than before, but haven't seen it since then.
mo1gulss, I've had friends stay there who were unhappy with the size of the rooms and the cost, but the other friends who recommended it to them will not stay anywhere else and love the flamboyance of it. Go figure...
If the hotel you liked last time was the Relais St-Sulpice on rue Garancière, behind the church, you'll be paying a lot more at l'Hotel for the decorating and history.
