Last Minute Logistic Issues - Munich, Salzburg, Vienna

We leave in less than two weeks for a two week vacation, starting in Munich for 5 days, then Saltzburg for 4 days and Vienna for 5 days where we will fly home from.

Questions are... What is the best way to get from the Airport to our hotel (Hotel Admiral) in Munich. From what I have read we can take the Train, the S-1 or the S-8. Does one of those lines get us closer to our hotel. If so which one and then once we arrive at local train station, I assume we would need to get a Taxi or perhaps the hotel is within walking distance?

From Munich to Salzburg and then Salzburg to Vienna, do we need to reserve and buy tickets ahead of time or can we just arrive at the station and get a ticket. Also wondering about the luggage situation, is there a special spot for it or does it depend on where on the train we are?

From Vienna (Pension Suzanne) to the airport, what is the easiest way to get to the airport - Taxi, train, bus?

We have done some train travel in Europe, but mostly smaller jaunts where we could just buy a ticket and get on the train. Any suggestions much appreciated. Realize that most of this info probably is on this forum somewhere...but running out of research time!

From city to city you can just pick up a ticket at the train station the day before - unless you are looking for some sort of discount. For that you would need to look now at the appropriate web sites.

As for luggage - it;s your to deal with as you will. Small bags can go on the overhead rack. if you have large luggage there is usually a place to leave it at the end of the car.

For transport to your hotel, you have a few options:

The S8 line from the airport will take you to the closest stop for your hotel (Stop: Isartor) and then walk around 5mins (max) to your hotel. Suggest you get a map before you get on the train. There will be one in the station at Isartor, but when you pop out, you'll need to get your bearings. It's not hard, just not fun with suitcases if you go the wrong way (hint: stand with the Isartor, ie the old city gate, behind you and the main road leading in front of you. If you can see the Cinemax sign ahead on the right you're facing the right way. Follow map from there).

Take the S8 to Ostbahnhof, get out and take a taxi from there directly to your hotel if you don't feel like navigating/walking to your hotel. Would take no more than 10mins to drive there and around Euro10-12.

For your tranfer from Munich to Salzburg -consider buying thr inexpensive bayern Ticket -
This is good for travel on regional trains for 2-5 persons for about 29 euro.

No need to buy in advance. You can get it at the station on the day you travel.
Several restrictions come with the cheap price
Travel only after 9 AM weekdays- no such retrition on weekends and as mentioned above regional trains only . This adds a short time to the journey.

From Salzburg to Vienna-

No need to buy in advance -

frequent service almost one time per hour. Journey takes about 2 hours 45 minutes .

If two or more travel together you can get a discount ( minimax ticket)

Give yourself some extra time at the Salzburg station as it is now being renovated.

Pension Suzanne has a great location in the city center being close to the State Opera.

Easiest and most convenient way to the airport is the reserved taxi.

companies such as
www.red-cab.at

www.airportdriver.at
www.ck-airportservice.at

29- 32 euro.

travel time depending on traffic should be less than 30 minutes.

Alternative - less convenient is airport bus.

Best location for your purposes would be to find it at Morzinplatz/ Schwedenplatz.

7 euro for the bus plus 1,80 euro ticket for UBahn line U-1 from the Opera 2 stops to Schwedenplatz .

with luggage not much fun.

By train - total cost isd 3,60 euro.
Ubahn u-4 to Wien Mitte station then SBahn train to airport-
Wien Mittee now under renovation- takes some walking for connection.
