Itinery help: 7 days from and back to Munich: Vienna, Prague, Berlin and/or Budapest?
Hi,
I'll be flying into Munich in November, arriving on a Friday, picking up a car, and returning the car to Munich the following Friday.
I have been to Munich before and therefore am looking to spend 7 nights outside of Munich. The cities I am looking at would be some combination of Prague, Budapest, Vienna and/or Berlin (none of which I have visited before). I am just looking for feedback on how many cities you think it makes sense to visit (I am thinking 2 and maybe 3 of these) and what a reasonable itineray might be. Also, anysuggestion on favorite lodging (USD125-225 range) and restaurants in these cities would be much appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance.
John H

I think two cities would be best. Berlin and Prague are about 4-5 hours apart by train. Vienna and Budapest are about 3 hours apart by train.
In Prague I stayed at Penzion Balbin near the Muzeum Metro & Wenceslas Square. It is a 3*, very clean, good buffet breakfast, and within close walking distance to almost everything you want to see. Cost about $85/night.
In Vienna, I stayed at Hotelpension Arenberg, a Best Western property but with a posh Vienna feel. It is inside the Ring and about 5 minutes to Stephensplatz. It is a 4*, has homemade muslei, nice rooms and good staff. Cost about $100. Also, I stayed at Hotel Drei Kronen, 3*, excellent buffet breakfast, near University and visiting professors stay there. It is just outside the Ring, 8 minute walk to Opera. Cost about $65.
Can't help in Berlin (stayed with friends) or Budapest (B&B no longer taking people).
I would go to Berlin and Prague. Berlin is my favorite city with so much history and culture. Prague is beautiful with excellent architecture.

I have Prague and Vienna in my radar for next year, John, so I am posting to your message so I can retrieve the answers more easily. I don't think Kathy and I have the nerve to drive, so I think a train is in order for us ...
