Italy travel in April
I will be in Venice in 1st week of April and then spending a day and a half in Florence before travelling to Le Sirenuse in Positano. What is the best way to travel from Florence to Positano? Which train and should we go thru Rome or Naples?

The easiest way is to go via Naples and then take the Circumvesuviana train from the same station in Naples to Sorrento. You can then catch a bus or taxi to Positano.
Alternatively, you could rent a car and drive down, maybe overnighting somewhere on the way down to break up the trip. A third option is to book a car service from Naples to Positano direct.

With train, you do not have a choice of cities. You go through BOTH Rome and Naples. Look up www.trenitalia.com for Firenze S.M.N. to Napoli Centrale train. Napoli to Sorrento is a ~70min cheap frequent commuter train (not comfortable) then taxi/bus to Positano. If you are a type( 
) staying at Le Sirenuse, a taxi or an arranged transport would be an option. It would be more than €100. With taxi, must negotiate a price before getting in.
There is an alternate way to travel Firenze S.M.N. to Salerno. Direct train ~3.5 hours every two hours. This also goes through Rome and Naples, but you stay on until Salerno. However, Salerno-Positano, while closer than Napoli-Positiano, is not faster since the shortest coastal route, while scenic is very slow going suitable for those with strong stomach going winding roads and have time to get to Positano. The inland path around the peninsula on highway takes just as long as the Napoli-Positano route and not scenic until you get to the Amalfi coast road.

I would take the train to Naples and then pre-arrange for a driver to pick you up and take you to Sireneuse. I always use Sergio Rianna to get me from Naples to Positano. You can email him for a quote: [email protected]
Although I LOVE traveling by ferry when I visit Positano each June, I would hesitate to rely on it for your arrival, as they can be cancelled due to bad weather, which could happen in early April.
