Positano to Naples

Hi,
I'm going on my Honeymoon in Italy about a month from now....I'm planning on hiring a car through the hotel to pick us up when we arrive in Naples. I wondering the best way to get back to the Naples Train station when we head to Rome at the end of our stay in Positano. Also, Should I book that train before I go?

Thanks!
Beth

The only train you'll be able to get is the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento. You can take a bus or ferry from Positano to Sorrento and board the train. The Circumvesuviana runs back & forth from Naples to Sorrento all day long...there's no need to book it in advance.

Be aware that this is a commuter train, so try to avoid early morning or late afternoon. The "train" is more like a subway-type coach.

Have fun.

Hi SK,

If your hotel is arranging for a driver from Naples, you might want to go back to Naples the same way.

You can also get to Naples by ferry from Positano.

You can also get to Rome via ferry to Salerno and train to Rome.

The ferries are easier f you have luggage.

Happy Honeymoon.

Yes, certainly the fastest, best way is to ask your driver if he'll come back for you.

I thought of taking the ferry from Positano to Naples, but you'll still need to get to the train station from the port. The Circumvesuviana drops you off right in the Naples train station.

The Salerno to Rome train is a great idea, too.

Skiv - There are no direct ferries on this route.

However there is a hydrofoil service in high season, normally with a lunchtime DIRECT service departing Positano at 12.15.
Journey time: 1 hr
Fare: 9.50
www.metrodelmare.com

(From Napoli Beverello dock you can reach Napoli Centrale Station by tram No 1 - or taxi. The tram is free.)

A budget alternative which may be convenient is the Positano-Rome bus service (- Marozzi).

It leaves Positano approx. 16.15.
Fare: approx € 20
Journey time: about 4hrs 30'
http://www.marozzivt.it/

Otherwise a taxi transfer to Naples station costs about € 100.
Local limo companies are:

www.positanocarservice.com
www.flaviogioia.com
www.limocarservice.net
www.benvenutolimos.com

Hope this helps ...

Steve

I'd recommend that you hire Francesco Marrapese,www.francescomarrapese.com, a driver on the Amalfi Coast, except that he is so charming and handsome that it may make you think you'd married the wrong guy!

I ditto the comment about Francesco.
Francesco charges my wife and I 100 euro to pick us up in Positano and take us to the Naples train stattion.
