Hi All,

I will be travelling by train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. I actually want to go to Isle of Skye, but I have no idea how to get there. I have 2 days in this area, can you suggest me where to stay to see the most of the Skye and how to get there? Thank you in advance.

A couple of different bus companies serve Kyle to several places on Skye. The main towns on Skye are Portree and Broadford and both are on bus routes and have Tourist Information Centers where they can find a B&B for you that is in your price range and on the bus routes.

One other place that is convenient is Sligacahn. Not a town - more just a cross roads, but basically in the middle of the isle so easy to get to all corners. There is a hotel/camp ground/restaurant/pub all on the same site

My advice is to rent a car from Sutherlands Garage in Broadford

They will pick you up at the train station in the Kyle of Lochalsh and drive you to Broadford (in the middle of the Isle), and then you are on your own.

I only stayed in the northern half of Skye, above Portree in the Trotternish area, and I think it has marvelous scenery and vistas. But if you do not plan to have a car, then staying in one of the larger central towns with good bus connections is the best option. I do think, though, that experiencing Skye is less about sightseeing than enjoying some nice long walks, especially in view of the waters.

Kyle is really just a terminal stop. Spend all three days on Skye.

Check out the the Inverness, Highlands & Islands forum on visitedscotland where there are some posts on Skye. a guy called Sonas actually posts from that area so may be able to offer help?

Thank you all. I decided to spend 3 days in skye as suggested and nessundorma, thanks for the links and suggestions. I will look for a decend place to stay in broadford and try to see alternative way to get around skye without a car. If you know a good and decent place to stay in broadford, please suggest me. thank you.

I could be wrong, but I think it's pretty hard to go wrong with most B&Bs on Skye. They are family run, clean and friendly.

In booking in Broadford, my main concern would be to be near transportation but yet to get some place a little off the main road, amid some nice scenery (Broadford is a commercial town with plenty of scruffy, utlilitarian buildings).

We just recently stayed here: http://www.isleofskye.net/swordalehouse/ and it is a very nice B&B. Not directly in Broadford (a couple of miles out of town, actually), so it might not make your 'close to transportation' criteria.

There's nothing wrong with Broadford (and it does have an amzing filling station, but it IS off centre. Mind you Skye is nota regular shape so most places are, a bit.
