Is our great weather about to end?

We landed in Zurich on 18th of March. We had some rain that day and the next. Then the sun came out and the temps became quite balmy. We travelled to north/central Germany for a few days and found glorious weather. Then off to Amsterdam for 4 days, where the gorgeous weather continued. We hoped to see tulips abloom just south/west of AMS at Lisse, but we were maybe a week too early? There were daffodils galore, which was pretty, but maybe not the same as fields of tulips of various colors.

Anyway, back in Switzerland now for another week. Lucerne has been so lovely and picturesque as only Lucerne can be.... but alas, maybe tomorrow the rain will settle in? Hoping not, but folks around here would like some rain. They say it's too dry!

We'll enjoy this lovely spring in Europe for as long as it lasts!! Wondering if any other fodorites are here to enjoy it this year.

(Oh, and Cigale.... the fashion report for this trip would take a couple of days to write...haha)

well certainly those of us who live here are enjoying it with you.

I think you may have been a week too early for the tulips, the ones in my garden [in cornwall] came out earlier in the week and are now looking lovely. Here the weather is forecast to change on Saturday - shame!

Just returned from a Grand Circle river cruise from Amsterdam to Vienna and the weather was lovely. After a chilly Amsterdam, we had one day of rain and the rest of the time was sunny and quite warm. I didn't need all the "cold weather" clothes that I took.

"Is our great weather about to end?"

What's great about it?

It's going to destroy my garden if we don't get rain - and lots of it - very soon. Which may not worry many readers - but they'll be whingeing till the cows come home if they visit England's major gardens and see them looking like a 1930s Oklahoma dustbowl.

Fortunately, we look as if we're getting a few drops at least over Easter. But every other promise of rain from the forecasters over the past month has fizzled away.

Ás someone who lives about an hour from Lucerne, I'm looking forward to the return of cooler weather. And rain. We don't like the heat; we've already found mosquitoes in the apartment. And I'm looking back with fondness at the two-week deep cold snap we had earlier this year. Sigh. Only eight months til the Christmas markets open again ;-).

The spring flowers are pretty, though.

"Is our great weather about to end?"

What's great about it?''

I dont know that I am quite so negative about the weather, but certainly we are once again facing a drought in France (and in SE England we hear)that won't be good for anyone. The water table is low all over France, and farmers are once again suffering. I dont know that they have recovered from last year's record lack of rainfall, and it's not looking good for this year.

It's great to be able to have lunch - and dinner - outside. But a good rain is really needed, not least for those of us who suffer from allergies. Most of the north of France is under a pollution warning, and even here in the relatively unpopulated south, I'm now taking antihistamines, eye drops, nose drops, inhaler, tylenol....

So yes, please let the great weather end for a little while at least.

last year we had a similarly warm spring [though it was a bit later than this] which was followed by a wet and miserable summer.

so if this year is anything like last, anyone wishing to enjoy rain and cool temperatures would be well advised to book their holidays in Cornwall.

Well, thanks annhig, but no thanks.
I rather keep the 18-20C and sunshine.
We got enough ground water here to simply water the lawns if necessary.
Unfortunately, weather is going to deteriorate over the weekend.. yikes.
Rain is fine when it happens at night. Otherwise I don't need it.

shucks, cowboy, we'd have loved to see you.

there's nothing like tramping along the beach in the rain.

Wow... I guess the 'locals' really DO want rain. We had a shower this morning (did not need our umbrellas though, as we were mostly inside by that time) and then the sun came out. I spoke to a couple of 'locals' today, one from Geneva, who was hoping for a lot of rain and soon.

We make this journey to Switzerland twice a year, and it is always in late March and late November.... both times of the year when weather can be very iffy at best. Sorry to be enjoying this so much.....

It can rain cats and dogs after about mid-week next week.
