Hotel Cavalier or Ter Rein or Adornes in Bruges Brugge
Hello,
I am currently looking at these 3 hotels in Bruges - any comments are appreciated!
The Cavalier is the least expensive (64E), Ter Reien is offering a room with canal view for (85E), and at Adornes I am looking at the smallest room (for 95E).
As you can see, my price range is a bit flexible, but the Adornes is the maximum.
I am not looking for anything fancy, or any special facilities. I just want somewhere clean, with a touch of character, and a decent included breakfast. I am a bit nervous that the Cavalier is too cheap . . .
Thanks!

Hey sockboy -
Two years ago we stayed at the Hotel Cavalier, and quite enjoyed our stay. We stayed in room 2-A, which was nicely decorated with a small table and chairs and a mini-sofa in the room. Our room was in the front of the hotel with a window. Street noise was not a problem since the area is pretty much pedestrian only. The bus stop is right down the street, the Markt and Burg are nearby, and there is a laundromat (Mr. Washie) just around the corner.
Breakfast included an assortment of breads, cheeses, meats, soft boiled egg, orange juice, coffee/tea, and was served in their breakfast room, which was very nice. The staff were kind and helpful, although there is no lift, so you must carry your luggage up the stairs (if I recall correctly, the staff helped out).
For EURO 64.00 I don't think you will be disappointed at all. We would definately consider staying at the Hotel Cavalier again when we return to the beautiful city of Brugges. Peace.

sockboy, we stayed at the Adornes for two nights in June 2003. The hotel occupies three houses overlooking a canal and is situated in a quiet, leafy area about a 10 minute walk from the Markt.
We had room 6, a large and attractive room on the second floor. I can't recollect what we paid, although it struck us as being very reasonable. The price included an excellent breakfast.
Having said all that, it sounds like you've got a great recommendation for the Cavalier from artstuff, and it's definitely less expensive.
Sigh ... I just looked at our photos while searching for the hotel bill. Bruge is a beautiful city. Enjoy your stay. (By the way, the Adorne family were medieval merchant-bankers of Genoese origin. Their family home was a short walk from the present-day Hotel Adornes.)

I hope you enjoy your stay at the Hotel Cavalier as much as we did. We (hubby & I & friend) thought it was a nice little hotel, considering the price. Our room was painted a warm yellow, had a chandeleir hanging from the ceiling, and there was a large bird statue, which we used for several photo ops in the room.
Our friend who was travelling with us had a room on the next floor, which was large with three single beds (she figured one for each of the two nights we were staying there, and the third for an afternoon nap). Her room was in the back of the hotel, which overlooked a lovely garden, complete with a statue of David. I don't know if the garden belonged to the hotel, though.
Anyway, the train station is quite a hike from the hotel, especially with luggage. You can take the bus from the station to a stop right down the street from the hotel. Or, you can take a taxi, which only cost us EUR 10.00 (we got into the city late, and didn't feel like taking the bus, but we did take the bus to the station when we left town).
I look forward to reading your trip report when you return. I've been planning a trip to Germany for over a year now (that's how I discovered Fodors), and many of the places you are travelling to are also on our list. I hope you have a safe and fantastic journey. Peace.
