We have gotten good rates from Hotel Casci, Hotel Europa and Tourist House Ghiberti. Having never been to Florence before, I would most appreciate any opinions on which one we should stay in. Thanks so much!

Price and location are the two deal breakers when it comes to hotels (to me). All three have given you good rates and all three have great locations with the Tourist House Ghiberti having a bit of an edge as it located almost at the doorsteps of The Baptistery! So, what's the deal breaker FOR YOU? Do they all include breakfast? Is one room better than the other? which ones offers free internet? are you more inclined for a Hotel versus a B&B (smaller)?

I don't answer the question for you but hopefully gave you some tools to come up with the answer that fits YOU!!

I've stayed many times at the Casci and have always loved it. I think if you check TripAdvisor and elsewhere, the reviews are always very, very good.

The rooms are plain, but everything always works perfectly -- excellent A/C (if you're there after May when it can get really hot and humid in Florence) very good beds, very clean, nice small fridges in each room (so you can store bottles of water or snacks.)

I think it's in a v. good location, five minute walk to the Duomo in one direction; a few minutes to the Accademia in the opposite direction; and just around the corner from San Lorenzo and its interesting markets.

It isn't attractive on the outside; the hotel is on the first floor (that is, one floor up from the street) of a plain building on a busy street. But don't let that turn you off: I've always found the hotel to be very quiet and charming (once you actually get inside.)

The family that runs the hotel is extremely warm, helpful and has lots of good advice for first time (and return) visitors.

Thank you both so much for your fast replies. We are going to be in Florence the end of January. We have no preference of B&B over hotel. Our only requirement is that we have a clean room with a shower and preferably with wifi (even on vacation it's tough to disconnect!) The Casci has given the highest rate with the hotel Europa being 100 euro less (which always makes me nervous)and Ghiberti being in between. They all get good marks on Tripadvisor. Thanks SACC for your personal knowledge of the Casci.

We've stayed at the THG a couple of times. I prefer its location. Rooms and bathrooms are unusually 'large' in Italian terms, and there is a bus stop right outside the front door of the building. Every guest room has a free computer with internet, and there's a jacuzzi for guests which we've appreciated after hours of walking, especially in colder weather. No real lobby, though, if that's important to you.

I agree wholeheartedly with sacc. I have stayed at the Casci five times to date (although never at the others your mention). I can only add and concur with all that sacc wrote. If your main requirements are "clean" then Casci is absolutely immaculate. They have a computer in the lobby for use of all guests but they also have WiFi in the rooms if you bring your own computer. You have to get a password at the desk, which (last time we were there at least) was good for about 3-4 hours and then you just needed to ask again for another one. Never was a problem and worked great.

Here's a tip. If you ask for room 10 (I hope that is the correct number) you will have a great bathtub in your bathroom as well.
