getting out of rome airport to hotel?

Gail I read your other post (Venice) and see that you are a "we" so at least 2 people
.
So I'm going with 2 persons below with *total cost*.
Off the top of my head! The cheapest options using a local train or commerical bus and then public transportation in Rome which I *believe*? will also require a tram-to-bus or a bus-to-bus change is ~15e to Piazza Cavour.
If you don't know the bus system and Rome in general this isn't a good option.
A shared ride shuttle van which leaves on a timetable with other passengers, so with possible multiple stops at hotels is 31e, so dropped-off at your hotel.
This is a good option if you are alone it's 25e but if 2 people add it jet-lag and the time involved, it's worth the extra 9e for the option below IMO.
A private car and driver for 3 can be had for 40e http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com/...t-transfer.php The driver will met you at Arrivals with a sign with your name on it and take you straight to your hotel.
There are many companies that do this be they are the cheapest (search rome limo airport in the search box for this company and others).
A taxi is either 47 or 48e.

How many, how much luggage and willing/able to schlep it around.
We always do a taxi - since it fastest and easiest for us - and I'm past the age of being pack mule woman. I don;t ind saving a few $ worth it.

We are repeating visitors to Rome and try to pinch pennies, but I'm not taking my luggage on a public bus in the city. So online tickets for the Leonardo Express are 13.50, 27 euro for two, then I figure another 10 euro for a taxi from Termini to apartment or hotel. For me the savings of 13-15 euro is worth it, but I totally get why it would be easier to just take a taxi.
I've been in some hideous traffic jams on the road from the airport, which is another reason I go for the train. We are always traveling without enough vacation days, so I tend to feel that every minute, as well as every euro, counts.
I think a driver from romeshuttlelimo.com is a slightly better deal than the taxi, and I've only had excellent service from then.

There is also a SITBus shuttle from FCO to the western side of Piazza Cavour at Via Crescenzio 2 for 6 euro one-way (5 euro when bought in advance online). Roughly every 40 min. This is a cheaper and still convenient alternative to 48 euro taxi or private transfer.
