Germany train/bus question

I am trying to figure out train connections in Germany. My first journey will be from Dresden to Seiffen on Sunday, December 18. I would like to have a several hour stop in Freiberg on the way.
Schedules for Dec 18 are not open yet, so I searched Sunday Dec 4 and here is one option I found. Travellers are myself and 2 teens age 19 and 16. "Partial fare" for this trip is E24.90 for all three of us. I assume the partial fare is train only and not for the bus legs of the journey? Any information about paying for the busses?
Can you explain what is meant by Kurort Seiffen and Schule Seiffen, and if there is a better way to travel to my final destination other than waiting almost 2 hours for the bus transfer?
We are staying at the Hotel Erbericht within the town of Seiffen.
Also, I don't understand the message about M-F only. I think weekends will be available in December since it was shown on the schedule?

Dresden Hbf dep 08:53 12 RE 26970 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Direction: Hof Hbf

I'm not sure what you are doing or why you are going to that particular stop. I don't even see such a train in December that ou found, so beats me. I thought that train stopped at end of October or something, I couldn't find it running Sunday in December (the 8:53 timing).

Why didn't you just pick the train station to go to? Kurort just means spa but they give that name to a lot of towns that have spas or are supposed to be healthy or something (fresh air). Schule means school, that sounds like a stop on the bus line. Partial does mean only the train fare, not including the bus fare. There are runs with only one connection or 2 at most, not sure why you picked that one.

The website for your hotel tells you to go to a different train stop and they'll pick you up, doesn't it? It says to go to Olbernhau-Grünthal.

You can get there from Dresden with only one change at FLoha, and trains the entire way (2 trains). One leaves Dresden at 9:07 am at least on Dec 4th.
<<Dresden Hbf dep 09:07 RB 26912 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Direction: Zwickau(Sachs)Hbf
Number of bicycles conveyed limited
Flöha arr 10:12 3
Transfer time 9 min.
Adjust the transfer time
Flöha dep 10:21 2 RB 23763 Regionalbahn Direction: Olbernhau-Grünthal
Number of bicycles conveyed limited , vehicle-mounted accessaid , DB Erzgebirgsbahn>>

So if that's what the hotel wants you to do, seems easier. I might be wrong on your hotel, it's just what I saw on a website for a hotel that sounded like yours

oh, sorry, I realize you dont want easiest, you want to go to Freiberg. Well, there is a train from Freiberg to Olbernhau about every hour in the afternoon, it takes about 1.5 hrs with one change.

Are you specifically wanting to travel via Freiburg? And you are aware this is not the better-known Freiburg im Breisau, right?

If so, a sample schedule I found:
Depart Dresden Hbf (MAIN station)
@ 12:07, arrive Freiburg (im Sachsen) at 12:50.
Bus #737 then leaves at 12:57 (so NO waiting around, if not wished), arriving Seiffen, Korort Mitte at 14:03. Kurort means the town has been designated as a spa region (usually a small spa fee is then charged daily by the hotel). Mitte=middle of town.
Ask your hotel which bus stop is closest and disembark there.

IF you DID want a longer layover in THIS Freiburg, simply search the schedule again, inputting departure of Freiburg time and Stiffen Mitte.
As to bus cost...? I will try to find the link to bus schedules.

Somehow DB mixed up the days on their website, guess it's a translation issue. I get "runs Sat, Sun and holidays" in the German version.

Your schedule is correct, however, you get off the bus at "Haus des Gastes" in Kurort Seiffen, which is right in the middle of everything, on the main street in the centre. Arrival is 14:06. Btw, this bus departs from Busbahnhof, Freiberg (central bus terminal) at 12:55, then stops at the railway station - the bus terminal is closer to the old town, saves you some minutes time to get on there.

As for the ticket - buy a Sachsen-Ticket for three persons. It covers all trains and buses that day. Cost is 33 Euro. You must fill in the names of the travellers before you board the train. Available from ticket machines.

Good answer on the price question then!
Be aware if you ARE visiting (this) Freiburg, Bus #737 is the ONLY direct bus to Seiffen, with two daytime departures (from the Bahnhof stop) of 12:57 and 18:17 (transit time to Seiffen is just 1h6m), so plan your visit accordingly!

The bus stop destination for your hotel is Kurort Seiffen Mitte Seiffen (Erzgebirge.) When I click on "map view" at the DB site for your itinerary, the end stop looks very close to your hotel.

The Dec. 4 9:04 departure from Dresden shows 2 trains + 1 bus and a wait for the bus of only 24 minutes. I do not see an 8:53 bus departure from Dresden with the above destination - just the 9:04.

The two trains will be covered by a day pass - the "Sachsen Ticket" costs €33/3 adults.
https://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/offers...y-ticket.shtml

You can see the bus schedule from where you get off the 2nd train - Grünthal Bahnhof Olbernhau - to Seiffen on this page:
https://www.rve.de/uploads/media/452H_08.08.2016.pdf

The RVE bus is not included in the "Sachsen Ticket" day pass for this region AFAIK - I suspect you'll have to pay for that trip separatel. It's a 30-min. bus ride - should be a few Euros each.

Kurort means "spa town" - just a label/title to identify Seiffen from some other Seiffen in Germany, probably.

Not to highjack the thread,
but similar ? for me..
Planning trip to mid-Germany next spring. Several of my daytrips cross over into the next state (Hesse-->Rheinland Pfalz/Baden-Wuerttemberg area). Is the Laenderticket not for me then? Or can I just pay a supplement on board?

> I am trying to figure out train connections in Germany. My first journey will be from Dresden to Seiffen on Sunday, December 18. I would like to have a several hour stop in Freiberg on the way. <

A search for Sunday dec 4 including a intermediate stop at Freiberg (Sachsen) of 4 hours brings up the following connections (Umsteigezeit = transfer time, Richtung = destination):

1.
Dresden Hbf ab 08:53 12 RE 26970 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Richtung: Hof Hbf
Freiberg(Sachs) an 09:25 1

Umsteigezeit 4:25 h

Freiberg(Sachs) ab 13:50 1 RB 26920 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Richtung: Zwickau(Sachs)Hbf
Flöha an 14:12 3

Umsteigezeit 9 Min.

Flöha ab 14:21 2 RB 23769 Regionalbahn Richtung: Olbernhau-Grünthal
Olbernhau-Grünthal an 15:16

Grünthal Bahnhof, Olbernhau ab 15:40 Bus 452 Bus Richtung: Bahnhof, Neuhausen (Erzgebirge)
Kurort Seiffen Mitte, Seiffen (Erzgebirge) an 16:11

2.
Dresden Hbf ab 10:53 12 RE 26974 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Richtung: Hof Hbf
Fahrradmitnahme begrenzt möglich
Freiberg(Sachs) an 11:25 1

Umsteigezeit 4:25 h

Freiberg(Sachs) ab 15:50 1 RB 26924 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Richtung: Zwickau(Sachs)Hbf
Flöha an 16:12 3

Umsteigezeit 9 Min.

Flöha ab 16:21 2 RB 23773 Regionalbahn Richtung: Olbernhau-Grünthal
Olbernhau-Grünthal an 17:16

Grünthal Bahnhof, Olbernhau ab 17:40 Bus 452 Bus Richtung: Bahnhof, Neuhausen (Erzgebirge)
Kurort Seiffen Mitte, Seiffen (Erzgebirge) an 18:11

3.
Dresden Hbf ab 13:07 RB 26920 Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn Richtung: Zwickau(Sachs)Hbf
Freiberg(Sachs) an 13:50 1

Bahnhof, Freiberg (Sachsen) ab 18:17 Bus 737 Bus Richtung: Deutscheinsiedel Warte, Deutschneudorf
Kurort Seiffen Mitte, Seiffen (Erzgebirge) an 19:20

For the vaildity of the Sachen ticket for the bus leg simply ask at the bus. Sometimes DB simply has no info whether a regional company honors a Laenderticket or not.

Where in or near Seiffen do you need to end up? The 08:53 from Dresden Hbf (Hbf = Hauptbahnhof = principal station, not one of the many other stations and stops in Dresden) that sla019 lists above takes 32 minutes to Freiberg(Sachs).

Then I see a bus 737 (Direction Deutscheinsiedel Warte, Deutschneudorf) at 12:57 that goes from the train station Freiberg (Sachsen) to Dittersbach Bahnhof Kurort Seiffen, Neuhausen (Erzgebirge). It takes 55 minutes.

Later connections on that route (13:50 and again 15:50) take 2:29 and involve first a train to Flöha, 9 minutes to switch to the train to Olbernhau-Grünthal, 24 minutes to switch to the bus 452 (Direction Bahnhof Neuhausen, Erzgebirge) that gets you to Dittersbach Bahnhof Kurort Seiffen, Neuhausen (Erzgebirge)

So - how far from that will you want to be? It may be an option.

Wrong. All the buses and (regional, not IC/ICE/EC) trains in Saxony are included in the Sachsen-Ticket. Excluded are steam trains, cable cars and such.

Thanks to all of you! You have given me lots of good options, but have also helped me understand the train schedule so much better! Christina, I never noticed the transportation advice on the hotel website. So much easier. And yes, I meant the Freiberg in Saxony. The Christmas market there is supposed to be nice. Ingo, thanks for explaining the translation of the days. Am I correct that the Sachsen ticket need not be bought in advance? The price is always the same?
And Nokia, thanks for the warning about the bus schedule. I will plan accordingly. Thanks.

The Christmas market in Freiberg is indeed very nice. But don't miss the old town around it Lots of sights! Dom, Terra Mineralia, Cafe Hartmann are *must* things to see

Yes, buy the Sachsen Ticket in advance from a machine. It's 2 Euro more at the counter. Price is the same, no matter when you buy it. Please note it's valid on weekdays after 9 am, on weekends all day.
