Found a Great Bag weighing 7.7 lbs!
Everyone was so helpful last week when I was looking for a new bag that I wanted to post the results of my online shopping adventure. After reading old posts on this and other forums, I decided on this combination: a wheeled, 22" suiter carry on and a "healthy back bag" to use as a daypack cum pocketbook. The suitcase is a Skyway "no weight" vertical case that weighs only 7.7 lbs. The next lightest case was 9.5, and the average weight in this length case is 11 lbs. A difference of three or so pounds of weight may not seem like a lot, but people with repaired rotator cuffs know how painful a few extra pounds can be to lift. There is a webreprint of a recent article in the WSJ about luggage that rates the Skyway No-Weight best overall:

This was, incredibly, the second least expensive case I considered. At $80, it was a bargain, and I hope it holds up.
Thanks again for all the suggestions. Had we decided on a backpack switcheroo, I would have loved the Victorinox---although it is nervewracking to order something that expensive without being able to at least try it, as sending it back would be costly, too.
Thanks again--

kswl, we have been using two 22"for 8 years that are black and lighter and paid $30 each at the Christmas Store. I honestly thought they would last one season, but they still look good. I stick on either ribbons to spot them on the carosel orstick on glow stars (til they fall off after season)I've looked at other luggage bur none as light as mine.

OK, now fill it up, and go carry it up a flight of stairs, about the length of a Paris Metro stair case. Let us know then how great it is.
Hate to sound cynical, but it is heavy to start with, and gets heavy quickly unless you are a muscle man, or woman.

I thought under 8 lbs was the best I could find. Bob, I can't imagine anything with a metal frame that weighs less. I will check out the bag you have, Cigalechanta, and thanks again.
