For Ben H. and other Londoners re schedule for fire service strikes?

I have been keeping tabs on the negotiations and understand the strikes are now probably inevitable. But I haven't been able to find the dates for the subsequent strikes (after the first one the last week of Nov.)

Have the later strike dates been set yet?

thanks

It has already started! As of 6 pm GMT Wednesday Nov 13 for 48 hours. They intend to strike every few days for 48 hours at a time until their demand is met which, for 40% pay raise it's going to be long haul.

Are you talking about the general fire service or the airport fire brigades, Janis? The general fire service had a strike today, I understand. I read on the BBC that the first strike for the airport fire brigades was planned for Nov. 28th, which worries me greatly since that is the day I'm supposed to arrive at Heathrow! And leave London on Dec. 2, the planned 2nd strike day! Although my friend in London today told me they are not supposed to decide for sure til the end of the month and he said if they went ahead it would happen a week or two after. I dunno though, think I may be more on top of this him. <g> Anyone know? Having my departure canceled would really truly suck, but I wouldn't mind so much if I had to delay leaving London by a day. <g>

Just read the strikes are causing havoc on the underground..the drivers are refusing to work beacuse of safety concerns. This would probably affect travelrs even more .

Numerous tube stations are closed but certainly still a minority.

It's a pain but not unmanageable.

The TFL site does have a list of which stations are closed. I know Mornington Crescent is as I went out with friends there last night, we just walked from and to Camden instead.

Before getting cross do stop and think.

Striking tube drivers have driven their salary up to 30k + over recent years.

Fire fighters, who risk their lives, work longer hours and are somewhat more selfless than tube drivers, are on around 22k.

If I had a say in it I'd swap that around completely.

But what do I know? I am just one Londoner amongst the millions...

Kavey
