Eurostar travel

Hi there. I am a first time tourist of Italy and just wanted to get an idea of prices for traveling from city to city in Italy. Does any one know the price of riding Eurostar according to the following itenerary?:
1. Rome to Florence
2. Florence to Venice
3. Venice to Rome
4. Rome to Naples & Pompeii
5. Venice to Milan
* I am doing all traveing in eight days
I have heard of some sort of 8 day pass, would this be more viable? Any information, especially prices is greatly appreciated.

I am sure someone will have more first-hand information but their website looks like it could help you.

you can find all the needed informations at www.trenitalia.it. The www.eurostar.com site is concerned with the "real" eurostar, the one going from London to Paris, while Itlaian eurostar trains only have the same name and use the same material. There is no such 8 days pass that I know of, but in any case buying point-to-point tickets works best for Eurostars. Just remember to buy all the tickets a few days in advance and right from one station, other ways you will probably not be able to buy them, since tickets for these trains are only sold with seat booking (and seats might get all booked fast enough!). Also, you should consider using Intercity trains as an alternative if you find that there are no free seats left on a Es. These trains are less comfortable and somewhat slower, but they offer a good service too (unless you hapen to travel on the same Rome-Genova train I took a few days ago: now I know what the word "dirty" means!). A very last thing: do not let yourself be tempted by first classes, in prticular on Eurostars: they cost 30% more and offer at best 5% more confort.

Hi Mary,
I have been researching the same itinerary.
There is an Italy Flexi Pass (4, 8 or 12 days in one month)
The Naples-Pompeii train is a different system, but fare is only about 8 Euro.
www.railsaver.com will calculate the best combination of passes and point-to-point tickets for you. Also, shipping is less than RailEurope charges.

Mary, do as Ira says and type your itinerary into www.railsaver.com for a comparison between point-to-point tickets and a pass. I'm positive that tickets will be the less expensive way for you to go. Don't worry about each trip being on a Eurostar; other trains are often just as good. In fact, we chose an Intercity from Rome to Salerno because it had fewer stops than the Eurostar, so the trip time was shorter.

Buy your tickets in Italy--it's MUCH cheaper than buying through RailEurope. You can buy your ticket for your next trip as you arrive at a particular city, or you can buy all of your tickets at once in any of the cities you are visiting. For example, when you arrive in Rome, buy your ticket to Florence. When you arrive at the station in Florence, buy your ticket for Venice, etc.

By the way, IMHO you've planned a very fast-paced itinerary for only eight days. I'd drop Milan unless your flight leaves from there and can't be changed to Rome. Otherwise, I'd drop the Naples/Pompeii part and savor the other cities.
