Eloping in Hvar; Farm Stay in Croatia; Istria

Hi - I posted about a month ago looking for suggested wedding destinations in Croatia. I looked into getting married in a nice stone chapel in Istria, but would not be able to meet the requirements for a church wedding.

After considering several locations, it looks like we will be getting married outside in Hvar. I'm looking forward to having wedding photos taken in fields of lavender, which will be blooming in early June. We also considered Krka. I saw photos on-line of a field of red poppies, which also would have been lovely.

We haven't made any of the travel arrangements yet. Airfare seems stunningly high from NYC. I would love to stay at a farm for a few days, must see Plitvice and would like to go to Istria. Excluding travel days, we will really only have 9 days in Croatia.

We will fly into Zagreb first. Can we take a bus from Zagreb to Istria, then Plitvice or Hvar, then Hvar or Plitvice and back to Zagreb. Can we really miss Dubrovnik? I wonder if we could take a boat from Istria to Hvar?

Travel2live - Did you say you had a recommendation for a house stay in Istria?

Thanks everyone. I realize I just rambled a bit there and have a lot of research to do, so feel free to just chime in on any of my rambling.

I remember your previous post--I think you made a great choice!
For flights, I have used http://www.croatiatravel.com.
See if you can fly into Zagreb and out of Split (or Dubrovnik, if you decide to go there).
After a couple nights in Zagreb and Plitvice, you might not have enough time for Istria, depending on where you fly out of. But I'm sure you'l get that figured out.
Check out the coves on the southern side of Hvar for rental houses.

I saw a agrotourism type place on Brac--might wanna check into that.
Many will disagree, but you CAN miss Dubrovnik--after all you will go back one day. To me, spending more time in fewer places would be a priority.
The only sea option would be Rijeka to Stari Grad (Hvar):

Buses are doable, as long as you don't try to do too much.

Hi, Linda! So sorry that the stone church idea did not work out.

Our favourite place in Istria is about 7 miles from Hum - very isolated and quiet and lovely. You can rent the upstairs or downstairs. So far we have had the place to ourselves! The owners live in Rijecka, half an hour away. http://www.tzpazin.hr/index_eng.php?...;booking_id=75

If that would not be suitable I have a list of about 25 other rural stays if you are interested!

In my opinion you cannot miss Dubrovnik BUT it may make more sense for this trip to do so. As another poster said, you'll be back!

yorkshire - thank you for all of the info! I was able to find the lowest fare thus far from Croatiatravel.com for my travel dates at $1,067 (taxes included)/person; however, I'm going to have to do some more looking into travel times because we have to visit the Embassy as soon as we get there and the embassy closes at 3 pm and is not open on Fridays. Nice, I know!

I will also look into flying in and out of different cities as you suggest, which will help maximize our travel time.

We may wind up renting a car after all, and saving some money by booking more reasonable accomodations. We will skip the sea option, but thanks so much for posting that site. I really like to know what all of my choices are, so that I'm sure I'm making the good decisions.

T2L2 - Thanks for posting your fave place. I looked around at some of the other possibilities on that site and may choose something a little more farm-y, but I'll let you know!

StCirq and LJ - Our coordinator in Croatia told me that the lavender will be blooming and even suggested that we might consider getting married in a field of lavender! I will have to rely on her statement and hope that the lavender cooperates. If it does not, then I guess we will just have to suffer with having photos taken along the sea.

Linda, this is another option for accommodation - rural, traditional stone, etc. at Groznjan - one of our favourite Istrian villages.

One near Rovinj (this website has some funky music...)

A farm one near Motovun
