elevator at St. Michel

The lovely lady who is renting an apartment to me in Paris says she looked on line and there is definitely a lift in St. Michel RER station. I can't get anywhere with the site she gave me, anyone else know how to access this? btw: it's ok if it's in french, I get along fairly well.

I think she was trying to lead you to this file:

I checked the Paris Metro Accessibility map and I'm not seeing anything there:

but I'll check to see elsewhere and post if I find anything.

The lift at St-Michel, according to this site, is en cours de rénovation.

Alienor: Told you I'd check a bit more. The only thing I'm finding is that the elevator that is/was there was "with assistance". I guess that means that somebody had to operate it for you. Bet you that's why it's under renovation.

it sounds as if it's nothing you'd be able to take unless in a wheel chair. I think I might just schlep my suitcase up the stairs at St. Michel and hope some saint comes along and helps me, as a man did last time. I specially bought a rolling duffle to try to minimize the weight.

Thanks again alessandraZoe

Is this at a subway station, or at St. Michel in Normandy?

tomboy: Are you thinking of Mont St-Michel, the abbey in Normandy?

The OP asked about the St Michel RER station in Paris. The RER is the suburban rail system, and it does connect with the "subway" (metro) in Paris.

Can't help with the elevator question, but we have rented an apartment on the Ile de la Cite in May, and have been told that the Metro/RER station there, St, Michel/Notre Dame, has an escalator to street level at the Notre Dame exit.

Don't know if that will help you, but if your mobility is limited, at least it would get around the stair problem. You would still have to walk across the bridge, but, hey, it's Paris!

You are renting from someone who lives in Paris and they have no idea if there is a working lift at the closest station or not, which anyone can use (not just disabled)? gads, how can she not know that and have to look it up online. Even if she never uses the metro/RER, it seems a landlord would find that info out if they are renting an apt, firsthand, not be looking online.

fyi the info is on the RATP website, in the "me deplacer" section, then accessibilite. It has a list about every station as to whether they have self-service ascenseurs or not.

thanks, Nukesafe. an escalator will do the job nicely. When I was there 3 years ago, we sure couldn't find it. I'm sure we're more likely to find an escalator over an elevator.

Either way, it's all part of the adventure. Wouldn't want everything to be too easy, takes all the fun out of it.
