People who responded to your survey must be English-speaking to rate Dublin so high. IMHO there are friendlier Cities in the Irish Republic: Ballina, County Mayo, for example, or Galway.

You probably get other opinions if the Irish Times expands its audience (and respondants) to people who speak German, or French, Spanish or Italian.

In short: I disagree with the the Irish Times article. It's like saying: We are the friendliest City in Europe without even considering places where languages other than English are spoken.

An unfortunate thing: Irish B&B Operators believe what they read in the Irish Times, and they will tell you that

What with the exchange rate (£-€ )and the incredibly high prices they charge for everything in Dublin, it's no wonder they are friendly to us brits lol

Irish Radio (RTE)recently had a call-in show about all the drugs and crime on the Luas tram, particularly the red line, and the buses heading north on N1.

I doubt that many people have read the actual press release and ranking from TA.

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/PressCe..._Releases.html

You can see that in many categories, 2 or 3 cities are in a tie, so picking a "winner" is more or less arbitrary.

I thought they only ranked big cities. As big cities go Dublin is friendlier than most cities but it still doesn't have the feel of smaller towns and cities around Ireland.

Just to be clear - this wasn't an Irish Times survey. This survery was quoted in many different publications, the Irish Times was merely reporting it.

Irish people are famously friendly and Dublin being the biggest city in Ireland, is pretty friendly. I'm not sure if this can really be quantitatively judged...everyone's experience will be different. I think Paris is a really friendly city, but that may have just been my experience.

I followed Cowboy's link. I would have a different opinion from the majority in most categories, and I find some of the ratings astonishing (Paris more expensive than Venice? No way!)

I have no opinion on best-dressed or worst-dressed. Who cares?
