Does anyone know of a discount airline from Munich to Venice?
All of the familiar airlines (TUIfly, Ryanair, etc.) do not seem to offer flights from Munich to Venice. The other airlines have flights that are quoted at over $600 one way. Ouch! I could also do a departure from Memmingen (FMM). Whichbudget.com shows only TUIfly but they do not offer flights from Munich to Venice.
I'm trying to avoid the 7-7 1/2 hour train ride if at possible.
Thanks for any suggestions!

On these other airlines have you priced a RETURN ticket, they are sometimes cheaper then a one way ticket. Buy a return ticket then don't use other half. You aren't supposed to, but people "miss" their return leg due to sickness or just being late all the time, LOL
On Air France I priced a one way Paris -Rome flight as being TWICE the price of a return ticket, so you may be surprised.

Bob,
Thank you so much for the quick reply. However, Condor does not show a flight from Munich to Venice either.
I could live with a short layover if there is somewhere in between the two that I could make a stop.

Have you considered taking the night train? Booked far enough in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.bahn.de, you can get Spar-Night (Savings-night) fares of 49€ for a bunk in a six-person couchette and 59€ for a bunk in a four-person couchette.

Bozama,
Thanks! I'll do a search and see what I come up with. I don't mind missing the return flight for a little savings.
Tim,
Thank you also. I have considered the overnight train since it would not be terribly expensive and there would be the one night hotel savings. Certainly worth thinking about.
Ira,
Arrrgggh! Everytime I hear "scenic" I certainly want to jump on it. However, I kind of feel that would cut out a day of Europe. Perhaps I'm wrong to think that?? After all, viewing the beautiful scenery is one of the reasons for visiting Europe.
If anyone has any other suggestions or know of any discount airlines, I'm open!
Thanks again, everyone.

This may or may not be interesting to you (the OP):
We're going to Munich after Venice this September, but in between we're spending 6 days in lower Croatia/Bosnia/Montenegro. We'll be flying to Munich from Dubrovnik on TuiFly. THAT will be a HUGE time savings precluding us from re-traversing northward up Croatia and over the mountains via train to Bavaria; and for that date and for two people with ALL taxes included, it's 106 Euros.
Best of luck. Don't give up, there's ALWAYS a work-around if you think out of the box. Have you tried Verona to Munich? I'll bet you come up with something. Otherwise just take a few more days and do the Dubrovnik-Munich thing too!

There are Stuttgart to Venice flights, but it's about 2.5 hours by train from Munich to Stuttgart.
I think that even if you do find a flight, you would save only about 4 hours at best. Maybe you could break up the train ride with an interesting destination in between.

Lufthansa is offering Munich to Venice starting at 99 Euros. Its up to the date you are going to fly.
And as aforementioned just skip the return flight.
By the way, just talking about time. Munich downtown to the airport will take almost 1 hour by commuter train. Normally you have to be there 1 hour before the scheduled departure time. The flight itself will take another hour. Then from Venice-Marco Polo to downtown another 30 minutes to 1 hour. In all roughly 4 hours with many changings. IMO a direct train would be easier, even if it takes 7 hours or more. But it goes from downtown to downtown.

Hi d -
I also recommend the train. Think of it as an integral part of your trip - DAY 6 - Tour the Alps by Train - rather than an inconvenience or waste of time.
The train has the added advantage of in-town convenience. The Hauptbahnhof is central, and Santa Lucia is in Venice proper and not on the mainland. And there is nothing - nothing - like walking out the front doors of santa Lucia onto the Grand Canal.
