Daytrips in Denmark
I will be going to Copenhagen for 1 week in July and would like to plan a few daytrips. I'd like to take a trip to Helsingborg and Malmo. Is it possible to do both cities in 1 day or should I plan 1 day for each? If I had to choose between Malmo and Helsingborg, which would be better? Also, would it be worth it to go to Odense? What about Ribe? Would either of these cities be a better choice over the Swedish cities? (I am proably also going to Roskilde and Dragor.)

I would recommend Roskilde. You can get there by train -- it's a cute town with an interesting Viking ship museum.
I did Helsingor & the Louisiana Art Museum -- but I was with a local friend who drove us around. Someone else will have to anszwer your Malmo quesztion.

Hi beth,
Instead of Malmo I would recommend Hillerod and the Frederiksborg castle.

Thanks for the info. I think we will definitely be going to Helsingborg, Roskilde and Dragor. I did some research and I think we may pass on Malmo. Does anyone know of any other Swedish towns that are close enough to Copenhagen and are worth the trip? Also, we would like to go to the Danish countryside. Odense seems like the obvious choice but there doesn't seem to be that much to do there besides the HC Anderson museum. Know of any charming countryside towns that aren't too far from Copenhagen, that would make a good daytrip?

beth23 and Nikki: Malmo is industrial and not very pretty. Lund, a university town with a very old cathedral and a pleasant central square with cafes and shops, and/or Ystad with it's many half-timbered dwellings would be much preferable.
The Ale Stones at Kaseburg are very intersting. The 40 stones, about five feet by five feet are in the shape of a viking ship. Nobody knows where they came from or who put them there.
A wonderful trip would be to the glass-works near Vaxjo (Kosta is the best dating to 1742), the 300+ year old paper mill at Lessebo and the marvelous castle at Kalmar (one of the most beautiful in Europe).
If you have the time, treat yourself to one of the most interesting, fun and rewarding vacation spots in Sweden, the enticing walled village of Visby on Gotland Island. This village has it all, with wonderful views of the Baltic Sea at all times. It is fantastic.
From Copenhagen, do Roskilde for the beautiful cathedral as well as the Viking Museum. Frederiksborg Castle is more interesting then Kronborg Castle at Helsingor. The reference to "Hamlet's Castle" at Helsingor is dubious at best. Frederiksborg is rather amazing.
If you go in the other direction from Copenhagen, the Isle of Aero would be much preferable to Odense in my humble opinion. From here you could take in Arhus and Ribe, both of which are interesting and fun.
If you do a search above on any or all of these places, you will get a good deal of additional information. Have a great trip.
