Best Day Trip from Copenhagen for Special Anniversary?

Will be in Copenhagen at the end of May with a large family group celebrating my in-law's 40th wedding anniversary. We'd like to take a relatively easy day trip, somewhere scenic and special, for a celebration.

Can anyone recommend a good day trip (by train) where we can wander a castle, a village, and eat somewhere wonderful? Many thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi Dash,

I suggest a trip to Hillerød and the Frederiksborg Castle. See

It's about 40 min by train from Copenhagen.

A trip to Roskilde offers Helsingor (Hamlet's castle) and the Viking museum. It's an easy day trip by train. On the other hand, the Lousiana art museum is also an easy train trip, and while there are no castles, there is an outdoor cafe and lovely water views.

Hi egbear,

"Hamlet's Castle" is at Helsingor.

Roskilde houses the Viking Ship Museum and the Cathedral where the Kings and Queens are interred.

Helsingor definitely.....very nice hotel at Marienlyst. Very good train connections to Helsingor from Copenhagen, Frederiksborg Castle is also very good recommendation.

Get a Copenhagen Card and make the loop of Roskilde, Hillerad, one of the north coast fising villages, Helsingor and back to Copenhagen.

Thanks for clearing up my geography, ira. I guess mixing two places together is what happens when it's been too long since you were there. This just means I need to go back!

Thanks for all of the good ideas. Copenhagen does seem ideally situated for some wonderful day trips. We'll have a great time!
