Check in time from Shannon to LHR

We leave Shannon on Aer Lingus at 8:45 on a Saturday morning in mid-September, stop at Heathrow, then back to the USA. I have looked on line and called Aer Lingus but can't get a clear lead on how early we have to get to SNN (can't get a real person on the phone). All I see on their website is 45 minutes, and that seems much too short to me to clear customs and get to the gate. Does anyone know from recent experience? I don't want to get there three hours ahead of time if it isn't necessary. It could be the difference between staying in Ennis the night before (for example) or staying a couple of miles away in Shannon.

You will go though US Customs and Immigration in Shannon, and they will not let you through early; one granddaughter had a later flight and we had to part ways going into ICE. We gave it 3 hours because we had to turn in rental car. There was definitely some hurry-up-and-wait. United hadn't opened when we got there.
I would give it something between 45 minutes and 3 hours, but err on the side of caution.

Ennis (or Bunratty, our choice)is not that much farther than staying in Shannon and there is a straight shot to the airport from either.

You do not Pre Clear going via London as far as I know.. Have seen this in a trip report somewhere in the past few days..Shannon even pre clearing will only be dealing with at most 3 departures and is a far more efficient airport than Dublin so a couple of hours should be plenty of time. LHR now there is another animal..

You are probably right, Tony, we were on a direct flight to the US. So that would mean even less time needed pre-flight.

I have taken the EI flights from SNN to LHR a couple of times.
You only go through one regular security checkpoint.
No passport control/ immigration.

You will arrive at LHR at the same terminal as flights from the UK. Don't know the procedure to connect to a US-bound flight from there, but LHR's website gives you a step-by-step guide in how to connect from those flights from the UK or ROI to other terminals (probably to T5, I would guess)

As SNN is a really compact/small airport.
To be at the airport 45 minutes before departure will be workable. 60 minutes is fine. 90 minutes is enough for the biggest worrywart
