Driving Trips in Bavaria
We will be traveling from Munich to Salzburg, Fussen, Freiburg, Heidleberg, Rothenburg, and back to Munich in 20 days. Are there any special scenic routes off the beaten path that you would suggest. We will be driving Berchtesgaden to Fussen. Google Maps take us through Innsbruck. Any thoughts about this route? Any tips along this route would be appreciated. Judy

If you take the route through the Inn valley from Berchtesgaden to Fussen there are a number of jewels along the way.
Hall is a cute little town. Mittenwald (the violin maker's village) is fun. Garmish has a cable car to the top of the Zugspitze. Check the weather before you go up because it is a no-go if it is socked in.
As others have suggested the Ettal Monastery is worth a stop. Ludwig's Schlos Linderhof is interesting, Oberammergau is a good place to shop for wood carvings. The Wiesekirche is beautiful. Pretty soon you will be in Fussen. Be sure to tour both castles.
