Black hair stylists or braids in Barcelona
Hi everyone. I am currently in Barcelona Spain as a student for the next 4 months. Everything has going well but I have run into a slight snag in my plans. I came over to the country wearing braids, but they are not going to last very long. Does anyone know of any places in Barcelona that specialize in black hair or braids? I would really appreciate the input.

There was a previous thread about this Viajero gave this answer. While it's a different city from the one you're in, if you might get some help from this email as the previous poster did:

Hi everyone!
I am going to be living in Spain for six months. I am so excited! I just have one problem. I relax my hair and I have done so for 3 years now. I was wondering if there are salons for black people or hair stores in Spain. How have you handled you hair issues for long term travel. And btw cutting my hair and going natural are NOT options and I have NEVER done a relaxer myself. What should I do? Thanks for your help! (and to those of you who think this is a vain/stupid topic, clearly you are NOT a black female and your comments are not wanted or needed)

In what part of Spain will you be living? I would think that large cities like Madrid and Barcelona would have many salon options, but others may be able to give you specifics if we have an idea where you'll be staying. What a wonderful opportunity! I'm excited for you!

There was a thread just like this about two years ago. The search function on this forum is terrible, but maybe someone can find the old thread and post a link to it here.

Vannalyn- I am not a black female, but I don't think I need to be to try to help you out! There is a beauty salon in Madrid's Gran Via called Sylom Peluqueria that specializes in African hair styles. That is, they are hair designers and their specialty is African-inspired hair dos. They may be able to help you. Their e-mail is [email protected]
Have a great time in Spain!!

Carrybean-- you are a total sweetie recalling that past message; please notice though that the poster is now in Barcelona and the rec was for her stay in Madrid.
Barcelonabest-- your best bet is to ask another female you see/meet locally.

Hi Barcelonasbest !
When I lived in BCN 2 years ago, there was a black hair stylist on Calle Verdi in the Gracia area. Almost across the street from the Verdi cinema. I can't guarantee they're still there, but it's worth the try. Info I found in a guidebook of mine:
"Extensions"
Calle Verdi 29 - Metro: Fontana
tel 93 237 9037
open Mon-Sat 10:30-19:30
Enjoy your stay !

Braids are really popular here in Barcelona, so you just go to a stylist and ask if they do "trenzas." It is not at all hard to find, but yes, the one stardust points out is really nice.

Belle Dame (salon, not saloon, although they may be that, too) does braids, extensions, etc and specializes in black hair as in the hair of a black person.
