I am in the very early stages of planning a trip to both Croatia and Greece for the summer. Ideally, we'd like to fly between Athens and Dubrovnik, but I'm not finding any flights between the two cities. What is the best way to travel between these two destinations? I'm looking at early July. Thanks!
Best way to travel between Croatia and Greece?

I am curious too as we are planning something similar. The only way I could find was to use ferries from Patras to Bari then across to Dubrovnik but it seems a long way round.
Hope you don't mind me tagging along Weadles?
No problem, Maudie! The closest I can find to Dubrovnik from Athens is Tirana, Albania. There's an Aegean flight that goes there, but I'm wondering whether we'd need to rent a car and drive the rest of the way, and/or if that's even doable. Seems silly to backtrack to Italy when Croatia is only a few hundred miles from Greece, but we may not have an alternative!
There are no direct flights from Athens to Croatia, you must fly into Rome or Frankfurt or any other major European gateway. Only then can you get to Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik.
Before you try to drive, find out if you can rent a car in Albania and drop it another country. I highly doubt it, so flying is your only option. Keep researching, you will find a flight eventually.
Dobrodosli
You can fly to Venice and be in Croatia a few hours later but not ideal if you only want to go to Dubrovnik.
My wife and I wanted to go from Dubrovnik to Corfu a couple summers ago. Initially, we looked at going to Italy and then back to Corfu on the ferry but decided that would kill two full days. What we did was a little crazy: flew from Dubrovnik to London via British Air then flew from London to Corfu via a bargain airline.
We loved Dubrovnik and Corfu but we concluded that we would not do the Croatia and Greece again in the same trip. Good luck finding connections.
Thanks for your replies, sounds like its a hard one to figure out. Yes, you can get there but seems like it takes too much time and money.
I think I have come to the same conclusion as sshepherd, but maybe things will have changed by the time we get there.
Just found out, the route i mentioned is less expensive than the ferry.
Weadles, I was excited to see your post so that I could click on your name and see what you look like--only to find you haven't posted a profile. Please do. I've always liked your screen name and enjoyed your posts. Would love to be able to put a face to it to complete the picture so to speak.
Thanks LittleVicky, that might just work for us. We could spend time in Greece then fly to Venice for a few days then down to Dubrovnik then continue by ferry to Italy.
Thank you very much for all the replies. I was hoping that there was a ferry/ short cruise between the two countries, but no such luck! I visited Dubrovnik many years ago, and have always wanted to go back. If I have to get there via Italy, that's not much of hardship!!
To JulieVikmanis: My kids don't call me Lo-Tech mom for nothing. I only recently found out that my cell phone has a camera, so you can imagine that it will be a little while before I figure out how to post a profile!
