AC Diplomatic - standard vs. superior rooms

Hello. We will be staying in Barcelona for 6 nights in September. I have made a reservation at the AC Diplomatic for a superior room for around $352/night. On Expedia there is a rate for a standard room for only $226/night (versus $275 through a travel agent). Can anyone tell me if the superior room is significantly nicer than the standard? We are willing to pay more if it's worth it, but the price difference is significant, so I thought I would ask. Also, just to complicate things slightly, we are also considering a superior room at the Hotel Majestic (the prices between the two hotels are comparable). Thanks for any input you have!

According to AC Hotels website, the superior room is bigger than the standard, has an HI-FI sound system and they give you bathrobes and slippers. I don't think it's worth, really.
The superior room at the Majestic has exactly the same amenities than the standard one, it is only a bit larger.
Majestic is probably the best hotel in Barcelona but both two are very good.

Thanks for the feedback. Have you stayed at both hotels? I was leaning toward the AC Diplomatic, but maybe the Majestic is the better choice for the money.

If the price is the same, I would probably take Majestic. Majestic is rated 4*+ (or some even rate it 5*?)vs AC Diplomatic 4*, isn't it?

I have visited only the lobby of Majestic but actually stayed at AC over the new year of 2003/2004 at a standard room. It was a small room (but not tiny - sorry I can't tell the exact mesurement. There was enough space for a sofa and a round table besides of course a bed.)but still fine for our 4 night stay. Kind of minimalist (in a good way)interior and drinks in the mini-bar (water, sodas and beers) were included in the room rate. For what is worth, I paid about EURO130 then, breakfast not inluded. I guess they applied low/middle season rate for the new year vs your september high season rate. Did you reserve your superior room directly on the AC group's site ?

No, when I checked the AC website for our dates, there were no rooms available. I booked through a travel agent (through my company's travel desk). Expedia has a better price, but has only a standard room, and I really think we would prefer the superior. I will keep looking for a better deal!

The Majestic offers a nice rooftop pool and is a solid 5-star. The AC Diplomatic also offers a rooftop pool overlooking the city, but is rated only 4-stars. Locations are basically the same, but the AC offers an excellent superior room, a free mini-bar and great staff. Both are excellent hotels, but the AC's superior room may be just a tad larger then the Majestic's. It's a difficult choice.

If you’re having trouble booking a room, then you may want to contact Totally Spain. They are located in Spain and work with a number of hotels, including the AC chain. Prices are often better then what you can get through an on-line booking service or even the hotel’s own website, which is not always reliable.

Not to really answer MNtraveler's question but I just entered 6nights at the end of september on AC Diplomatic's own site to check the price. Standard rooms were available and the price was €180 per night. That's about the same as USD226 thru Expedia, isn't it?
