1 night in Zagreb or extra day in Dubrovnik?

Hi guys,
Just after a bit of advise, obviously.

My GF and I are going on a cruise from Dubrovnik to Split in May.
We are flying from Berlin and have found the cheapest way is to fly through Zagreb.

My question is, should we get a connecting flight (is 2.5hrs between flight long enough to get the connection?) or spend the night in Zagreb and fly to Dubrovnik at 21.00 the next day?
If we spend the night in Zagreb we arrive around 10pm on a thursday and our cruise leaves on Saturday. Would our time be better spend in Dubrovnik or Zagreb?

We will have already spent time in larger cities (Rome, Berlin, Prague) and i do prefer smaller towns and villages.

Regards,
Scott

Any day of the week - the choice is easy - DUBROVNIK !!

If I understand your situation correctly, it's either a day in Dubrovnik, or a day in Zagreb. If that is in fact the case, then seriously, Dubrovnik is my choice.

2.5 hours connection time is enough anywhere. (Zagreb airport is not Kennedy, CDG, or Schonefeld).

Zagreb has its charms, but I would go on to Dubrovnik as well. The view of the city as you approach from the airport is spectacular, and your is a nice time to go.

I will still get to see Dubrovnik, but was wondering if it is worth not seeing Zagreb to get an extra full day in Dubrovnik.
Thanks for the replies so far.

It really depends on your interests.

It sounds like you would have only 1 day for Dubrovnik, which is just enough to see its highlights, but an extra day would give you the chance to see a bit more of it and in a bit more depth. I'm glad I had about 2 full days for Dubrovnik. Whatever else, don't miss the walls or the Buza Bar!

I thought Zagreb incredibly underrated and I thoroughly enjoyed close to 3 days there. It has some museums that I thought well worth visiting, lovely parks, a very pleasant botanic garden, a gorgeous cemetery, and some interesting neighborhoods.

And as quovadis said, the stunning Plitvice Lakes are well worth seeing!

Hope that helps!

Definitely Dubrovnik! Zagreb is just another European city. Dubrovnik is quite touristy but has its cute personality. Do the walk along the wall, watch the sunset, dare to dive on the cliffs or swim in the ocean, try risotto and since i'm pescatarian, i enjoyed the variety from http://www.nishtarestaurant.com/. Enjoy!!

I toured Zagreb with a local resident and, while it has its own attractions, I didn't find them so outstanding as to merit a day over Dubrovnik.

So, I'll toss in my vote with those voting for Dubrovnik.
