Need suggestions for Alaska shore excursions.

I'm leaving in early June on a Royal Carribean Alaska Cruise. This is my first visit to Alaska. I have the booklet of available shore excursions, but there are so many to choose from. Any suggestions/recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Karen, visit the boards at www.cruisecritic.com (Ports of Call, Alaska) for plenty of coverage on excursion options.

We took a helicopter tour of a glacier. On the way, saw bear on the hillside and then landed on the glacier. I thought the helicopter ride itself was awesome. I would definitely do this excursion again.

In Skagway, We took the goldpanning excution. This was awsome. They took us to this place where the actors were dressed up and put on a little play for us,(very funny!!!) Then we panned for gold. The pans were prestocked but still fun.

Note in today's Wall St. Journal: by the end of this month there will be up to 11,000 cruise passengers per day in some Alaska ports. More than the population of all the towns visited except Juneau. The helicopter tours are apparently freaking out the eagles. Enjoy your wildnerness experience.
