What is the dress for the restaurants in bermuda? Including the hotel restaurants...

smart casual mostly;<BR>some require a jacket and a tie,<BR>but generally everything is casual, although shorts would not be proper for dinner; where are you staying ?

I didn't know what "smart casual" was and it was described to me as sport coat, shirt w/collar and no sneakers.

I like dining at the nice restaurants as much as the next guy, but having to put on a jacket while in the tropics is absurd!! I don't care what anyone says, dressing fancy in the warm tropical islands is for the birds. Just can't imagine!! Give me shorts or starve me!!

Bermuda is not a tropical island, it actually gets breezy at night. In any case, there is something for everyone, you can be casual or dress depending on where you want to dine.

Sports Coats and Bermuda Shorts with socks and tie. Or long pants and the same. Please no jeans, sneakers, tee shirts or sandals.<BR>In some resturants a Golf shirt would be ok.<BR>

No actually the sport coat, shorts and knee sox is very Bermudian. At first it looks weird, but after awhile it makes sense: business attire with a nod to the warm weather. You get used to it.

Bermuda has become more casual than in the past, but jacket & tie are still required in some very upmarket places. Best to check ahead of time. Particularly at dinner, "Smart casual" for men generally implies a collared shirt or golf shirt, nice pants or good (Bermuda) shorts, no jeans, no sneakers, no baseball caps. (You have to excuse me -- I advise business school students, and some don't get it yet.) For women: a nice dress or pants/long shorts outfit, no sneakers. IT also depends on the time of year you go: evenings can get cool, but August evenings can sometimes hit a steamy spell. PErsonally, we don't mind dressing up, especially for some of the very good restaurants in BErmuda. Its nice to bring some ambiance to the scene, and we often get rewarded with better tables (and not just in Bermuda.) Restaurant owners everwhere appreciate the courtesy of showing up at a nice restaurant, nicely dressed.

Just back from Bermuda and trust me, I never wore the jacket and long pants I packed once. The general rule in most restaurants was "collared shirts". Khaki shorts were fine. No cut-offs, no denim.<BR><BR>The only places that dictate how you should dress are the fancier restaurants around the island and the restaurants in the fancier hotels. <BR><BR>Take some good clothing anyway just in case you decide to do it up. <BR><BR>More important is to be aware that there's a whole lot of restaurants charging lots of money for some pretty mediocre (i.e., pub) food, so make your dinner choices carefully.
