Rose Hall Resort and Country Club - Montego Bay

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any first hand information on this resort. It's closed for renovations and is scheduled to reopen in mid-Nov. Thanks.

I was there when it was owned by the Wyndam group three years ago, so I don't know if these comments are still valid or fair as it appears to have changed hands?

Beach was nice, lazy river and slide was fun for both adults and kids. Relatively close to the airport so it made for a short fun long weekend getaway.

The food, except for the nicer restaurants that you needed a reservation for and paid extra, was terrible. There were 14 of us and only one was o.k. with the food. We are not foodies. Buffet lines were very long and slow.

Besides the food, it was fine.

The resort was in pretty bad shape when it closed for renovations, but in the past it had always been a very popular family-oriented resort ... at about the same level as the nearby Holiday Inn Sunspree. The beach there is pretty good, as clueless says. I wish I could tell you something more, but my hope is that it will be a nice resort once again. It was never really upscale or luxurious, but it slid very far downhill toward the end, after Wyndham pulled out.

It has been my experience that Wyndham has a bad habit of letting properties slide into poor repair and then pulls out.

Thanks for your responses. We'd like to stay in the Montego Bay area. What would be a good choice for a nice family hotel. There's the Iberostar, Sunset Beach or Starfish. Rose Hall seemed like a very good choice since the rooms will be all new. Thanks.

The Iberostar resort is also brand new. I've not seen this; it was under construction when I was in Jamaica earlier this year. It just opened a few months ago. I don't know Sunset, but I'd probably steer you away from Starfish if you want to be in MoBay. It's really in the Runaway Bay area between MoBay and Ocho Rios, and it's a pretty basic hotel (non-AI) and kind of isolated ... not really near anything.

Starfish is actually not in Runaway Bay. It is located in Trelawny and is probably about 45 minutes outside (to the east)of Montego Bay. It's a Super Clubs Hotel and so it is an AI.

Iberostar is now open but is still under construction. Even though it says it's Iberostar Rose Hall, it's pretty isolated out there. The hotel is located on a decent beach.

One thing about staying in the Rose Hall area: if you plan on leaving the property be prepared for road construction...and thus traffic an delays. They are now doing a lot of road work in the area between Half Moon Hotel and the Rose Hall Resort.

A new shopping & dining complex recently opened (or is scheduled to open) in the Rose Hall area calld the Shoppes at Rose Hall. I haven't been there as yet to see what shops have opened up but I do know there are several duty free shops out there.

The Sunset Beach Resort (& Spa?) is located in Freeport, is close to town (not walking distance though, unless you really want to walk!) and is supposed to be a pretty kid friendly hotel.

I know you said you wanted to stay in Mobay but have you considered Beaches Negril?

Hi Jagirl,
Beaches looks really great but not within our budget. We really would like to stay at Rose Hall - I've heard it will be really nice once the renovations are done. It seems alot nicer than the Holiday Inn and Sunset Beach - what are your thoughts -Thanks
